Screw clamp grips and carbon bars
/first world problem
got a solution to install straitline bar end caps (ODI style, but with a set screw instead of pinch clamp) onto a carbon handlebar without screwing the setscrew into the carbon? /caveat - the endcaps must not fall off during schralping the roadbike. |

I guess technically, you could drill a pilot hole for the set screw. Use a dogpoint screw or something like that.

dont they go on and on about not compromising the weave of the carbon?
I think odi clamps are about $10. |

I wouldn't recommend using those on a carbon bar. The set screw can start cracking the bar.
Overall the set screw end caps like that are a poor design. The clamp style like odi or Envy work well with carbon and any other bar.

I have ODI's Dave, but these match my stem. /first world problem
C.lee's got it right. that's them, and I'm not planning to compromise the bar. Just need a way to install them without the compromise. I might have to do a little machining on the caps. |

Doesn't someone make plug in bar extensions? How about those and have your cap fasten to the the extension.

Crazy glue?lol.
Get a new stem with your new Odi lock-ons and your problems are solved. |

not so crazy Bryan, the caps could get glued to the grips.
But I like Dave's idea - drill a hold in the end of the bar cap, put a screw through and use plastic bar end plugs which expand to hold the cap onto the grips/bars And it's a new stem. |

Race Face makes bar end reinforcement plugs.
They should stop the collapsing of the bar, but they wont stop scratching or piercing of a set screw. http://raceface.com/components/small...rcement-plugs/

Just a thought - you could put a thinstrip of metal (coke can?) under the set screw to let it clamp but not penetrate. May not be room, may not work etc...
