salsa delgado disc

picked up a set of these for nothing. wide as and lighter than a flow, with eyelets. seems they were discontinued - found a few threads full of whining on mtbr (is there any other kind?) a few years ago. wondering if anyone has had time on these or built a set, and cares to share their experience? as i said i paid next to nothing for them but they're ~100g less than what i'm riding now so i'm considering building them as a wide am-race wheelset for the 4kings

I would try to avoid running any new bits of gear in a multi day endurance ride.

Cheers Ben

I had Delgado Race 29er Disc on my Salsa cross bike for the past few seasons... Stayed true, has a decent wide profile (for 33c CX tires!) and even held 25c road tires up to 100psi with no problem. Apparently these are no good for tubeless, though (ghetto or otherwise). Not exactly AM-level abuse testing but they did get slammed around with pinner tires and I do tend to get some airtime in CX mode and had no problems. Even took the CX bike down Juryn - Ha Ha!

For CX, they were heavy and I wanted to try tubeless this season so kept the DT 240s hubs and built them up with Stan's Crests - shed a ton of weight but we'll see if they hold up as well.

Side note: Anyone want a pair of used Delgado Race 29er Disc for dirt cheap? :-)

thanks os. i can find a bit more information about the delgado race rims - i think they are slimmer than the og discs, and welded. the ones i have are the older version, wider and pinned, but with the same, tubeless-unfriendly profile. am wide even if they're not am tough, and close to xc weight - hoping they'll make a good (disposable?) am race rim. now i just need a rear hub

I would make sure they will hold your tire of choice before committing.

The reason I say that is I was given a pair of brand new Salsa rims a few years back – can't remember what model, and not the Delgado disc – because tires basically just fell off. I confirmed with a couple of sample tires and sent them off to salvage. Bead seat diameter was way too small.
