If you go 3/4 upgrade in and out of your HW tank and to fixture take offs, the volume/pressure ratio is a wash as your PRV is regulated 65-85 psi and there is usually more pressure supply from the main to offset the increased volume/pressure drop by upsizing.

If the piping in your hose is easily accessible, I would scrap as much copper as you can and replace with pex.

As far as average line in size from main to curbstop - it differs from muni to muni. Old school is 3/4 in virtually all muni's but the ones that have mandated single family dwelling fire protection upgrade minimum 1". West Van upgrades to 1 1/2" .

I did a $60 000 bathroom reno in Shaugnessy. The faucets alone were $7000 for the pair. Most suppliers have decently priced baseline fixtures in multiple finishes that can be had for a reasonable price. $500 showerheads are for people that want to waste money and tell their other rich friends about their $500 showerhead at cocktail parties.

Or as said before buy everything from plumbing supply places like Andrew sherat (sp?)
Cronkite ect.
As for going to 3/4 lines throughout your house; your plumbing system will have a presure drop since you'll increase the flow without increasing the presure.
Think more water but slower.
I am doing a basement gut and looked into upgrading all my lines to 3/4. (its 3/4 at the main supply down to 1/2 after the s/o valve.)
After I looked into it I'm sticking w the same sizes.
Totally wrong! Bigger dia pipe means less pressure drop per length of pipe run. Bigger pipe will get you more pressure at the fixture.

One reason not to go big on hot water lines is that you will wait longer for the water at the tap to get warm when you first turn it on. Because there's more cold stagnant water to flush out of tbe way.

That won't be an issue for us, we are using on demand HW with a recirculation circuit. It is pretty much instant hot water while the recirc is on. (on a timer for when we are likely to use it)

Wait, your putting in a fancy on demand system with recirculation yet you are complaining about fixtures???

You gotta pay to play. You want the fancy stuff it's going to cost. If not there are plenty of good fixtures that don't cost a boat load.

I did the fixtures/vanity in my bathroom, with every intention of leaving the place as a "move in ready" starter home for 500 bucks. That was toilet/seat, vanity, shower head, tub surround. All of it was Olsen or Moen.

We already have the on-demand and Solar as well. I don't mind paying for something if I can see the cost is justified.

My problem is paying outrageous prices for simple things.

I saw one that I really liked in a bathroom of a house I was looking at (and am still kicking myself for not buying... no work needing to be done = better) - the entire ceiling of the shower was a rain head, and it was big enough for a couple. The jacuzzi tub was beside it.

The rest of the house was equally appointed and awesome, it came with a pool table and was only 270 000... but noooooooo.... it didn't have a garage, so I wouldn't buy it. Dolt.
