Squid is definitely awesome. The guy seems to continue work on it so it only gets better.

Apparently there is also a new entrance

http://www.fvmba.com/2012/07/18/squi...e-is-complete/

Regarding the climb up, definitely harder than fromme especially if you goto the top. The grade is a bit steeper than fromme, but the real killer is the sun exposure and the loose gravel as its been recently graded. Not terrible, but definitely not my favourite climb.

Thanks for posting that up.

After watching that video, I can't help think that Squid line is the kind of trail that Bobsled should have been. I'm not trying to dis the building of Bobsled or the builders, and I know a huge number of people, including me, my kids and friends all enjoy Bobsled one hell of a lot, however, the high speed nature of the trail does not make it as beginner friendly as it possibly could/should have been?

Squid Line is pretty damn high speed, or at least can be. They're both great trails although I gotta give the nod to Squid Line. It's just so long that your bang for climbing buck is amazing. And I'm not sure what it is about narrow trail but for some reason it just makes it more fun and natural.

In the end, I think they're both great. We need both Bobsled and a Squid Line like trail on the Shore!

Squid line has a new dedicated entrance recently built by FVMBA, just a bit past the holiday sauce entrance.

You can support FVMBA and get maps of sumas, vedder, bear, red, and Woodlot at most bike shops in the valley, see FVMBA.com for a list. If you're coming from Vancouver, life cycles is right on the way just off the mccallum rd exit.
Kinda proud to have been involved in laying the ground work for this in 2005-07. Way to keep things moving FVMBA! (and by FVMBA I really mean Tom, Steve, Ewan, and one or two others...)

The things that have happened on sumas the last few years are the result of a lot of people's work and nobody should be singled out for credit, least of all me. I didn't really have anything to do with it.

FVMBA is Planning a Fun casual group ride on sumas in the next few weeks. Once the date is nailed down I will post it up here.

And stay tuned for an imminent announcement regarding a bike race.

Squid Line is fantastic! I was on Sumas a few weeks ago and had a great time. A very friendly Gary Harder (beer in hand) came up and chatted. He told me a lot of what FVMBA is doing in the area. A lot of hours are going into those trails all over the mountain. It's really great to see. I'm really happy to be back on the Coast after years in eternal winter. So much work happening by so many vollies, all over the coast. Thank you!

Here is my footage from Squid Line and it includes a bit of the new entrance. The Mrs. rode it slow and rode it a bit quicker. The best thing is....the ride didn't end in tears, we both has grins ear to ear

(Warning: for those with ADD, it's about 8 minutes long--only the downhillish bits though;-)

Once you have rode that trail you will appreciate how much work has gone into building ,bench cutting and creating a endless turny bermy. Its like a long pumptrack, with a few pedal ups to keep you earning your turns.
Ive rode it day after some rain having some drifting fun, rode it about ten times ,brought my sister on it to get her into fast flowy riding.shown 3 people it and everyone loves it.
You can also go higher and ride Devils Throat,or finish the day off at ledge veiw i reccomend Trail mix, that runs down the backside bluffs Park one at Highland ,and one at Fun Castle on Whatcom.
you have to check out vedder mountain soon pm me c lee.
What trail is "trail mix"...never heard of it.

He's probably thinking Mixed Bag. You have to give him some allowance - this is Wheeldrop we're talking about here.

Good ole wheeldrop, always thinking about minimizing impact on the trails.

More importantly, when will wheeldrop's sister start posting here? We haven't had a good wheeldrop/gangsirbitch/semi-retarded third party train wreck in far too long!
