Nice vid.

Good job on your result.

Look forward to seeing more of these pop up, they are events tailor made IMO for the west coast non racers. Should be a big success.

Apparently not if the transitions are too short. Zing.

If I can't stop for a beer/latte between stages and crawl along on my V-10 then no way I am going to sign up for more of these.

Thinking more about a comment that Atherton made about Stage 4 being the only real "proper Enduro Stage" what else could be done with the terrain and lifts?

The first Enduro that Richey put on was boat loads of climbing. Three laps up the Flank. No set start time for laps, but I'd say I was way more worked from pedalling after Flankworx than I was from the Open. I had my Six set up all Dh'ish. Totem and dual ply tires, by the end of lap three I was cooked. It was more like a Jack/Queens day of riding.

How could we have three 15-20 minute courses in the valley without it being an epic pedal-fest that favours the XC guys?

That's a good question, what would have been a better course?

Considering it's meant to appeal to non XC types, more AM riders and converted DHers, what would have been better?

i dont think we have enough epic descents that can take the beating that a race like this dishes out. golden boner is fine, but really i dont want to see 200 racers destroying anything on the westside, or anywhere else really.
Billy Epic would be pretty sweet, but the logistics of it are too much...
Bottom line is, someone is gonna be pissed off about something no matter what happens. The pure ex Dhers are gonna moan when there is pedalling, the exXC'ers will moan when its just all dh...

edit: this was written with a sram/gbb party hangover so probably makes little to no sense.

getting from A to B is part of the race. i agree it was too tight, but being unable to climb your bike at all because of gearing makes no sense to me.
Yes, yes I rode the course in full the day before but that was too late to change gearing or find some fitness. And besides, there's plenty of time to get to the next stage....... bahahahahahahah!

there seemed to be a brief window for course suggestions before this event, but it changed nothing in the end. apparently insurance issues are what's dictating things.

would be cool to start high and move over and lower as you go, like this:
top of the world-khyber
kashmir-xxx
(south flank trail)
cheap thrills-99er-danimal
back across for another bike park course

or stay away from westside and move over to blackcomb for hey bud or foreplay, then finish again in park.

kashmir and hey bud would get destroyed(er) if it were wet though.

that's nothing compared to the two day samurai in 2006, or the big day of the 4 Jacks!

last day of the kings does look pretty epic at what 46k? hoping the enduro format will make for a mellow overall pace punctuated by high-speed fun, but not looking forward to ending up in emerald ready to bonk

See Flips comment.

My comment about Flankworx was in a relative sense. It was way more pedalling and climbing than the Enduro, but nowhere near the level of radness that Tony dished out on his big courses.

Done right obviously...

If it's a two day event does it need to be in the same location? Day one Whistler, Day two Pembie/Squamish?

Have the subsequent 'big' days of the 4 Kings/Queens/Jacks been tamer than the Jacks then?

Interesting if true...

personally I think the big day of the queen's in pemby wasn't as hard as the jacks....Jack's was north flank from cougar to start off to billy epic, then all the way back to valley, then up to cheap thrills via rainbow flank, down to valley, then up danimal/across to function, and up south flank to high society.....it was totally vicious.

I will never forget how happy I was when I realised I still had a Cliff Bar left in my pocket halfway up that final climb in the Jacks...
