A buddy had them on his new bike and crashed regularly with them because he was accustomed to having traction. I tried them too and really, really did not like.

I'm not sure what they're good for, but they certainly aren't for what I (and my friends) use them for - which is changing direction and/or speed on north shore trails.

I bought the 2.6 version a few years ago and the first time I used it was on Mach Chicken.....Holy lack of straight line braking traction on loose surfaces. It was a bit better with lower pressures but I soon sold it on.

I rode 2.4 UST Ardents in Sedona earlier this year and they were pretty good for local conditions there. Mix of slickrock and dusty singletrack, not much moisture.

I found them decent in dry or hardpark conditions...but the minute any moisture was involved they became my worst nightmare. Definitely not my first choice for anything wet and/or rooty.

They work well on packed cross country trails lacking steeps and tech. Work well for that as they have a low rolling resistance, I have one on the rear (2.25, looks fat like a 2.35). Defo wouldn't run it on the shore or most of lower mainland.

I rode them in Lillooet/Kamloops this past weekend and was pretty happy with them. Definitely dry, mix of loose and hard pack

But I'm definitely not a tire guru (I got them cheap)

They work great here in New England. I've been running the single ply 2.4's on my 6x6 bike and they have been solid. Not the best traction going but better than most single ply tires I've ridden that weren't stickies. Our terrain is pretty flat and hard packed with tons of chunky rock and roots.

I also have the 2.6 DH version that I use on the lifts. They wear kind of quick but I find they ride fantastic in the dry and the wet. I do find they lose traction a bit when going on edge but the outer knobs usually catch and correct before it becomes a problem.

I love my Ardent 2.4 front. I don't get why people have traction issues with these. Weird. I find that tire is super predictable and has awesome grip. I have even been running it in ALL seasons! I know! How is that possible, right?!

Yeah I've got ardents on my AM bike and no complaints at all. That being said I will never ride them on my DH bike

They're good in the park. You just have to get used to drifting.
