Doug Curtiss in Washington state builds Curtlo bikes.

My steel frame and fork came in at $1,000.

He'll put disc tabs on if you want them.

Sorry I missed the question. I'm at work so I'll give more later.

The Kaffenback frame is pretty dammed good. Keeping in mind my previous CX bike was a Rock Mtn Rail back in 2002 and was aluminum. Prefer the feel of steel as a personal preference. The price was definitely a bonus shipped from the UK. Unfortunately couldn't get the fork that goes with it at the time as the budget was tight. So have a temporary Kona Project 2 CX for on it.

Canti brake mounts are removable.

One little niggle is the crank and chainstay clearance. As you can see from the pic I'm running a internal BB and it increases the chances of clipping the chain stays.. The frame would be better served with a external BB crank set. Have the cranks just waiting to get the BB next.

From Sunday's 5 hour Gravel ride. Yeah I know I'm breaking the rules... unshaven legs.

I didn't think an external bearing crankset had a wider Q factor?

I think the replacements have a wee bit more bend in the arms.

Thanks. It looks like a decent inexpensive steel frame. I don't have anything to build it up with though so I might just go with a complete bike from my lbs for now (opus sentiero likely) then swap the frame down the road. Found a pretty good deal on a complete build kit on eBay but the seller won't ship to Canada or even a place like Ship Happens. I'm out with a broken wrist for at least another month anyways so I have some time ago think about it.

I'd be interested to see a before and after measurement from the chainstay.

Keep in mind the cranks on it are the older style with straighter arms as it was a franken "Get It On The Road, Dammit" build. Similar to the 600 set that was on the old road frame.

But rough eye balling by feel method says maybe 4 mm more... but that is going by feel. The true test will be once swapped and under full sprint torque.

Square taper BBs come in many lengths, so you could just have a long one in there. Guess I'd like to know how long that spindle is too, haha.

It was one had laying around the shop and went for a wee bit of overkill I think. Pretty much just wanted to get out and ride it. It's one of those builds where you spend all the monney on the frame and slap on what parts are laying about. Then slowly replace as you upgrade it bit by bit. One of the side effects of married life.

Check out Salsa's new lines. Colossus and Warbird. I'm thinking seriously about putting down a deposit in the next few weeks at Mighty Riders for the steel Colossus. Curious about weight though.

PM'd!

We're stoked on the Colololssal and Warnerd, but our frame recommendations, as with all bikes, are going to be driven by your intended usage and your particular fit and physiology. There are going to be an awful lot of options in the steel disc all-rounder category to choose from this season, and I'm sure that we'll be able to get you on the perfect bike regardless of brand!

Side note: I've got a date with the only Surly Krampus in Canada this weekend, and I cannot freaking wait to get the Salsa Beargrease up in here!
