700cc Commuter Tires

I've got the standard Kenda Kwest on my commuter and I find them to be a little shifty as well as prone to flats.

I keep hearing recommendations for Conti Gatorskins and was looking at the 700x28 Gatorskins as an upgrade but the look like they wouldn't have much grip on wet roads. Since my route home takes me down some pretty serious descents at speed and near traffic I'm curious if anyone has any experience with these tires in the wet or recommendations for something else?

Hoping to have one set of tires year round but if I have to change them out for the wet Winter commute I will.

Schwalbe Marathons are bombproof and relatively cheap compared to the Gatorskin, which would be lighter and faster.

I have a set of continental top touring 2000 and they have been great. I think that they are discontinued though, but if you can find a set, they are well worth it.

Any shop with an account at Orange Sport Supply.

The 32mm Panaracer Pasela at MEC also gets good review from long mileage commuters.

I use the Vittoria Rubino Pro tires. They last a long time, corner well, roll well and are good enough to do long road rides on. I have accidentally ridden over glass, nails, etc and they still stay intact. There are a number of glass cuts in the tire tread that haven't punctured through in over 6 months, and I rode the long course at the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year in them with the glass cuts and they were fine. I commute to work every day and I have to go through crack town in the downtown eastside, which is the most hard core battle testing grounds for any road tire.

I think this is what I am using albeit on an old mountain bike. Same pair has been going for almost two years now.

I had 4000 km on my old pair of 28s and the front still looked new. Can't say I didn't skid some flat spots into the rear, but no flats in that time.

It's only been 5 months now, but my Shwalbe Duranos are holding up well from constant commuting.

I ran maxxis refuze tires for a year. Got good grip and only one flat which was a pinch, my fault for being lazy and letting the pressure get too low. They wore out after a year but I went back to the same shop and bought another pair.

I got one in 28mm that I really like, rolls good and it's tough, but couldn't find another to match...........

I found the Panaracer Tservs to be great commuting tires. Light, tough, comfy but roll well, and last a long time - I have about 1000 km's on mine and they look almost new

Depends on the tire itself, as 28 is kind of the crossover between light-fast and heavy-slow. I personally wouldn't commute on anything smaller than 28.
