No way! That stuff tastes like ass. I'll take a feedlot fattened cow please. Even better if it never moved, was massaged all day and drank beer rather than water.

So where does bull riding fit into every day life on a farm? Tying testicles and using other techniques to ramp the animals up just to see how long someone can sit on it while it has a tantrum must be a regular and productive part of a quiet fame life, as a 'cityfolk' I'm surely just uninformed. Can someone illuminate me?

Do we need to treat animals like they are possessions?

I think that is the question being asked.

As an omnivore I don't have a solution but I do wonder and I think in many cases the way we treat them leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm not even sure where bullriding has a place in a thread about some horses dying in a race, but they don't tie up bulls nuts or do anything else in particular anymore to rev them up. Most if not all "riding bulls" get a kick out of tossing guys around and actually are hard to keep out of the starting pen,as I've been told by a nutbar that I know who rides.

It was my impression that this thread was about abusing animals for the entertainment of drunks. Though i'm sure there are some animals that dread their participation in rodeo events less than others, I'm pretty sure that most if not all of them would rather not be tail twisted, flanked, spurred, manhandled, or subjected to any other technique that forces their participation.

Yes we kill animals for food. Yes, some of these techniques are useful even though they might injure the animals in question. But why do we take a (subjectively) necessary evil and turn it into entertainment? Isn't prancing around in a ridiculous hat, getting drunk, and pretending to be a cowboy at a large fair with rides and exhibits enough for 'cityfolk'? Does the stampede really need the to watch men 'defeat' livestock?

Never been to a rodeo but I've watched them on TV and I think that being there would be
a lot more fun. When looked at purely altruistic view, the Bassmaster competitions are
pretty cruel.

Humans are at our core, violent, adrenal driven beings. We can strive to "Buddha" but we
really aren't. So, these kinds of things harken back to a day when we were living on the
edge by our wits, skills and strengths. To celebrate this is ok IMO.

You mean because we want to eat so many of them that we have to control them?

I have eaten lots of animals I never possessed or owned or controlled.

Granted when you are talking about hundreds of thousands it doesn't work to got out and shoot one when you need it.

Maybe we should just clone meat in a tank in convenient shaped lumps? That would make everyone happy...except the people who need to dominate other beings.
