Its pretty common - a lot of riders use the beginning of the Vuelta as a tune-up the World Championships. Spartacus has nothing to gain and everything to lose by riding all the way to Paris.

No way ... Wiggo is the man. He's earned his dues. Anyone else on Sky who is that good will get another shot some day. Right now, the plan is to work for Wiggo - unless he folds like a cheap suit. If Froome does a stand-up job, Sky may gift him a stage win or two.

It's not BS at all. It is a team competition. Froome was hired to do something specific as was Van Garderen. Wiggins has a very firm grip of the yellow jersey. Allowing Froome to compete internally for that jersey could see Sky loose the jersey for both riders. It would be like the Sedins playing keep away from each other to score a goal instead of the other. So Froome goes up the road and gets the jersey or close to it. The other 6 riders now support who? Last year we saw that retard Bryuneel claim that he had four potential team leaders and that the road would decide who that was. What happened was that the team was splintered and no one was properly protected and supported and half of them crashed out.

That said, Froome is a brilliant plan b. If Wiggins cracks badly like Menchov did yesterday (lost 13 minutes) then Sky would be smart to change tactics for the team to support Froome.
