2012 Bear/Red Mountain Challenge!!

Red Mountain XC Challenge - June 30, 2012
Bear Mountain DH Challenge - July 1, 2012

Both races are part of the BC cup again, so come on out if you're in for points or in for pleasure. Either way, both races will be a blast.

XC will use the same course as last year on Red Mountain, but most likely without the mud-fest we encountered last year. We're not up against the Test of Metal this year, so the field should be larger. Using this slightly shorter course gives the spectators a better chance to watch the race progress as riders overtake each other, and riders will have more passing opportunities.

DH uses the familiar favorite on Bear Mountain. We're running max out on shuttles, with 3 buses, two truck/trailers and the 1 ton van. This combo has worked well in the past, so you should be able to get in several practice laps. But - COME EARLY!!!

Registration is now open on CCN.
Register @ CCN for DH here
Register @ CCN for XC Here

New for 2012: For most XC race categories, the registration fee has been reduced!!

Also: Register for both DH AND XC, and receive a $10.00 discount. If we get enough people doing both races, we'll set aside some special swag for the combined winners.

Details on face book and our Web page:

Curious about results from past years?

I've got links for 1999 - 2011 here: http://www.bearmountainchallenge.com/results.php

I am missing 2006 & 2007 XC, so if you have them, please let me know.

2006 DH is also missing, but another bike site put up a good description of the race, including winners, so there's a link to that as well. Again, if you've got full results, let me know.

The Commissaire from last year has recommended 4, and this year's chief agrees, so looks like 4 it is. We are hoping to get another elite rider to run the course flat out so we can better judge appropriate # of laps; if we do, the numbers may change.

Yes! 4 chances to pass guys in the Red Rider chute. That's my favourite part of the whole race course.

Well it's another year with again XC race on Red saturday
And Canada Day the DH race on Bear mtn. 11:30am sharp start.
Big thank you to our title sponsor RACEFACE, for their continued support.
Those who came out to indoor 4X this winter ,seen all the swag they contributed.
We gave the lions share away to the younger crowd and it was well recieved by everyone.
The work to keep this race humming and lineups for shuttles short as possible.
Again we have put on a extra bus and 1 ton van to augment our shuttles.
Hope to see you out ,either racing or volunteering.
This year the DH course will revert back to a little more chunder , a little bit of old school coming back.
Again I ask the question " will anyone even come close to our 7year record holder Steve worldcup Smith!!

I really have to admire your perseverance. It's such a fun track to ride but it's almost impossible to get that many riders up that hill. Good on you for refusing to give up! Hope all goes well on the day and better weather than last year!!

There's some video on our web page:

Bear Mountain Challenge Gallery

Tom: I'd best not post my times - I'll use the excuse that I tend to stop, eat a snack bar, look around etc. Yeah that it - I'm stopping for the scenery. (not 'cause I'm tired at the top of that climb)

Go warm up for Red by riding Junk Yard Dog tomorrow.
