Bumping this thread because I just finished building and waterproofing my deck, and I'm looking for advice on decking materials.

In my experience Trex is garbage and not worth the money. I installed it on my dad's place about 6-7 years ago and for the last 2 it has been steadily crumbling away, particularly in high traffic areas (stairs). He's in the process of pursuing a warranty claim.

Does anybody has experience with other synthetic products? I like the idea of low maintenance, but for the big $$ it better be bloody solid.

Concrete? Install a really good torch-on membrane, then EPDM and gravel topper, then pave with whatever the hell you want. Will last pretty much forever...

Anyone already gone through this on their own house?
I hear if you're Glen Clark, you can get a free deck...

3-layers torch-on is on...EPDM on top of that seems a bit overkill, unless it's a pre-req specific for paving.

I don't think paving is the route I want to go here. Probably going to go with cedar unless somebody has been impressed with something on the synthetic side.

by pave I meant paving stones or bricks or concrete pavers etc.

My deck has a 2 inch concrete slab - looks good - easy to clean - won't rot.

I used a floating tile system made from composite bamboo. the look and quality of the material is much nicer that what you can find at Rona, HD or Costco.

http://www.bamboohardwoods.com/decking.html

drawback: you may have to drive to Seattle to get it.

Some family members built a TREX (composite/artificial material) deck near the ocean and it has gone to shit in less than 7 years. It is hard to explain but the way that a TREX deck collects mold and mildew in its crevices is much more unsightly even after a pressure washing. Get a high quality pressure treated wood...

That looks interesting. Do have some idea of cost per sq/ft? And pics?
