Enter the Dragon...Spacecraft.

Been watching the live feed on NASA TV this morning of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft being captured by the International Space Station's Canadarm 2 (represent) to become the first privately built spacecraft ever to fly up into orbit to dock with the ISS.

Blows my mind that I can sit at my computer and watch history like this happening in real time.

It's ongoing right here if you want to take a peek.

I was going to head outside last night and try to spot the two of them, but 3am was just the wrong time for me.

But yes - pretty exciting. Looking forward to the next Mars landing this summer.

watching the feed right now.

NASA control room looks the same as when they landed on the moon (assuming it really happened ) but now it's in colour, no one is smoking and everyone has the same office chairs as we do.

What's with those Herman Miller Aeron chairs anyway?

Was really pretty before the sun went when you could watch the Earth spin underneath them. It was pretty cool watching the sun set over the Earth about 20 minutes or so back too.

Sunrise should be sometime in the next half hour though.

I think that might be the SpaceX Mission Control room actually. Which kind of makes it even more interesting to see how old school it is. NASA probably actually gave them an old room to play in.

Successfully docked. Making it the first privately built spacecraft to ever do so. History will remember this day better than we do.

First step in what will one day lead directly to the Star Trek/Firefly/BSG future, for all the sci-fi fans out there.

I watched the launch the other night, and it is indeed amazing we can watch not just the terrestrial part, but everything happening in orbit as well, in real time.

Elon Musk must feel pretty satisfied with what he has accomplished. Sending capsules to the ISS is a long ways from PayPal.

Highlight reel from the SpaceX docking mission. Pretty amazing what humanity can accomplish when there is real vision and inspired people willing to work hard to a single goal.

Watching that and realizing how incredible it is, how many people are captivated by space and beyond. It makes my blood boil that we are living in a world where its cool to blow a trillion dollars on bailing out some morons, but its preposterous that governments spend billions on space missions as if its some asinine and insignificant goal.

Regardless, I don't wan't to sour the mood. That was awesome!

NASA still has the original Apollo control room set up at Cape Canaveral, you can see it as part of one of the tour options.

So today, while the majority of news readers are focused on US elections, NHL labour boards, and a 4.3 earthquake in Eastern Canada (that some people even felt), the Dragon spacecraft made history by delivering a load of cargo to the International Space Station.

How is that so significant? Well it's ushering in the era of commercial space flight for all people on the entire planet is all. No biggie.

Might have had some trouble with that whole 'falling' thing.

Or should I say falling and actually landing on the planet.
