front derailleur braze-on question

This is a gear question, but I'll try it here as the gear forum is more MTB related.

I got a new road bike frame given to me - came from the Giant sale. From what I can gather from some searches, it appears to be a 2007 TCR zero. The frame is half aluminum, half carbon, and has blue and grey colouring.

There's a braze-on for the front derailleur that is mounted onto the seat tube by two screws.

Ihave an existing Ultregra front derailleur that can mount to it (or mount to a proper clamp).

When I mount the derailleur onto the braze-on, there's only vertical adjustment and no horizontal adjustment. The cage is angled inwards too much; probably needs to angle outwards about 15 degrees or so to get it to line up with the chainrings.

Has anyone run into this kind of issue or have any experience with this type of mount for the front derailleur? I can't tell if I'm clued out as to how it mounts (used to clamp-ons), or if the mount is faulty, or if the part that mounts to the tube needs to be "bent".

Any help would be appreciated.

Pick of the bike; you can kinda see the mounting clamp between the two seat post water bottle cage mounting bolts. Also a pic of what the mount looks like:

So your existing front der is designed to work as both a clamp OR a braze on mount?

Back when I was working at ace I don't remember a front der like that existing. The only kind of front der' I know of you can use would look like this. I happily accept the chance I'm wrong though as I'm totally out of the loop these days.

Braze on fronts are designed to have horizontal adjustment due to the concave/convex interface thingy goin' on. Can you post a pic of how you put it together?

I'll bring over a Dura Ace braze-on derailleur and you can try and see if that makes a difference.

Fast Orange, that's exactly my derailleur. The clamp is in the pic in my OP. Only thing that can be done is to slide the derailleur up/down. When the mounting bolt is tightened, side to side is fixed.

It is not supposed to be. The slot in the fixed mount on the frame should be wide enough to allow rotation sufficient to line it up properly. Could it be malformed or bent?

What you guys have been saying makes sense. I'll go to the shop and get them to look at it.

Thanks for the info.

Doh!

Had a Homer Simpson moment.

The washer that goes between the bolt and the clamp was missing. Without it, there can't be any horizontal swivel. Kinda like a v-brake shoe mounting washer.

Was good to stop at the Giant shop - they were helpful with a couple things. Unfortunately they didn't have any small parts.

The Parkgate Different Bikes shop a washer in their small parts and gave it to me for free.

Could you hear laughing after the door shut? Hey we all do stupid things now and again. Fork oil in the face, Stan's goo all over the place. Once I couldn't remember to extend or compress the fork before I filled the oil. Extended it and I must have had a good two or three millimeters of travel, for a race, On Seymour. Pushed a bearing out the wrong side of a swing arm once. Oops.
