Oliver, Keremeos, Penticton versus the Island?
I'm looking for suggestions or ideas for a long weekend in mid/late April or early/mid May. Must be within 5hrs travel time from Vancouver
I'm thinking there's gotta be some trails in the Oliver or Keremeos area (and I'm sure Smoke can chip in about Penticton...) but will everything likely to be still snowed in mid April? How about Victoria/South Island, Nanaimo or Comox/Campbell River Looking for 2 long days and a short days XC/AM type riding rather than DH though we may be able to do some shuttling. Not after mega-technical riding. |

I'd stay on the coast, maybe a Hornby/Cumberland/Duncan combo

And Cumberland will be just fine that time of year.. At least the lower trails will be. Snowden will be wicked too. |

still snowing over here..
Keremeos (south facing) is improving (as of Sunday), but won't be clear by April imo. Lots of trees up high to hold the snow. Oliver side of the ridge will be worse. Penticton (Naramata)will probably be ok at lower levels in mid April. I've ridden at that time the last couple of years (3 blind mice etc). Princeton won't be open till early May. |

Anything up Carmi in Penticton will most likely still have some snow. Those are mostly downhill trails though.

Rode in a couple of inches here in Nanaimo today. I would bet it would be gone by April.
If I were you I would go to the interior. Way better weather and cheaper to get there. Just depends on the snow. Duncan is super fun and has all kinds of riding. |
