It's been a while since I've actively built, it was always just Darryl and I or a solo thing. I never liked trail building in a group. Too many opinions that I didn't care to hear. These days my spare time is something like this 85% family life 10% riding 5% photography although the bottom 2 swap and sometimes the family life is 100% and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Some times (like the solo ride) it is what becomes more convenient and fits into time constraints. Cost factors in as well. Outside of the intitial cost of gear, some things are way pricey in comparison. A day on the road bike is cheap compared to sledding or skiing.
What i like to do: 35% mtn bike (xc and dH) 20 snowboard 30 dirt bike 10 fitness training ( weights and cardio) 5 road biking What i spend more doing based on the first two points 35% mtn bike 35% fitness 10 road bike 15 dirt bike 4.95 snow board 0.05 cocaine and call girls (not to be confused with hookers and blow...that's just trashy )

Used to climb about 5 days a week when I lived on the mainland and was only 10min from an indoor wall, now I'm not willing to make the drive to Campbell River from Comox. Also used to do a fair bit of yoga and snowboarding, now I can't really afford it (although I do get out a couple of times a season).
Normal breakdown: 60% biking 20% hiking/snowshoeing 10% road biking 10% running During hockey season: 40% biking 30% hockey 15% hiking/snowshoeing 10% running 5% road biking We will see how that all lasts with the kid. Biking might take a bit of a backseat until he is big enough for the Chariot, and I'll try to take up the slack with hiking. |

Love the large percentages of trail work people are putting up!
Funny how fast these numbers can change on you. I remember fondly when life was split equally between trail maintenance and riding. Injuries, children... If you are able, enjoy the hardcore riding and building while the gettings good. 100% sitting around getting fat is always just around the corner!

In respect to winter in Canada, we live in Shangrala.I have skied since i was 10 years old and now snowboarding . Most years you can ride your bike 12 months of the year. So for me unless I'm thigh deep in pow, I'd rather be biking. just sayin! I also enjoy solo riding as well as group rides.
