Whistler is getting easier

Anyone notice how almost everytime a trail has repairs or work done on it, it ends up having some of the challenge taken away? Today, I went to ride Rock City and they have removed some rock from the landing of the ladder so now it is pretty smooth. After that I road No Duff for the first time since last summer, and now ladders are where there used to be a steep rock roll to a mini drop. Other trails that have gotten easier since last summer:

Angry Pirate
No Joke
In Deep
Lower Joyride
Duffman

I am all for trail maintenance, but it is disappointing when a lot of the challenge gets smoothed out.

Anyone else notice this? Thoughts?

The Triple Hump got the root-ball removed and replaced with armoured rock. I was happy to have ridden it successfully before they changed it!

I don't mind...there's still tonnes on the mountain to challenge me.

actually i think no joke has got harder in some spots since this time last year, roots and rocks are coming through.

i dont mind them smoothing trails if they build newer tricky ones, french connection whenever thats open is a good example.

No Joke is definetly rougher in more spots, on the ski trail into the step up mud holes, is nice and holey, and the steepness down to Highway 86 is gnarlier...goodtimes, makes things interesting, change you suspension and things may smooth out.....

Compare to my local trails on the french riviera, Whistler is very smooth and the rocks aren't aggresive. There are few stones and rocks in Whistler. The most rocky trail is Detroit Rock city but it's nothing compare to the Peille trails just beside Monaco for example. In Whitler I never saw rocks with aggresive edge, river of stone everywhere and others french riviera like trails...
But the roots are ver presents and we never have roots on the french riviera. So when it's wet, it's a good challenge for us

OK, in one month and a half, I will be here

Dudes. If you don't think Whistler is smooth, come over here and ride. Whistler is like a baby's bum compared with the rocky downhill trails we ride here. Don't get me wrong - having just been in Whistler, I believe it's heaven on earth. but trust me, it's smooth as silk.

What if you're just getting better at it the more you ride?

Agreed though - trails do get easier after trail work, but they will also last many more years that way. The winter rains take care of all the smoothness of good rockwork anyway.

Thumbs up Smooth or more skill? That is the question!

.

I agree here! I took a trip back to Ontario... rode some of the trails that were challenging just early last year. IE Blue Mountain... cough cough... Hill sorry. Whistler forces you to progress very fast.

After a ride on the Shore... which in some parts I consider very smooth... tell me that Whistler is not smooth!
