Hey Whistlerites.. what's the word on Cheakamus Crossing?

Does it smell like my knee pads after being zipped up in a bag for a month? Will I die if I live there because of all the toxic fumes?

The place is populated by a bunch of whiners. Not sure if it's tolerable there. There's a few good peeps, but they're outnumbered.

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with the NIMBY crowd which is why I have trouble believing that the world is ending over there.

However, reading this in the disclosure statement makes me hesitate:

• The development is adjacent to an operational asphalt and gravel facility...
• The Municipality waste treatement facility is located adjacent to the neighbourhood...
• Cheakamus Crossing is adjacent to a closed landfill site which may create associated gas and odours

I imagine that ... shit ... has got to be worst in the summer. Guess I should wait and see for myself.

check every issue of the pique for the last 3 years to see the running commentary on the situation. you could probably get a smokin' deal (pun intended) on a place there right now, i'm sure a few people are keen to get out.

there's a group of highly vocal 'whiners', and then a lot of people who really like living there. I have a few really good friends there who say it isn't nearly as bad as the 'whiners' like to make it out, although I'm sure there are days where it isn't totally pleasant.

I don't imagine the asphalt plant runs nearly as much as it used to when they were closing up the units...and the sewer plant smell usually doesn't blow that way

Like I said, there's good peeps there, but they're outnumbered. I haven't heard too many complaints about the sewer plant or landfill, just the asphalt plant. The whiners strong armed the muni into sueing the place without a case - the plant doesn't break a single bylaw - so the muni just spent lots of money for nothing. They shoulda re-zoned or added a bylaw or had something to sue for, but they didn't.

I take it this is a new subdivision next to a landfill and asphalt plant,
are the "whiners" people that bought a place there or who are the whiners?

I worked there during construction; drove up from Van 2-3 times a week, summers and winters. I don't remember smelling the landfill; it's capped and the minor amounts of methane were being burnt. You could definitely smell and hear the asphalt plant, but that was a known item prior to sale. This reminds me of the thread about Vancouverites whining about the Indy races when they bought into the new highrise condos AROUND THE INDY TRACK! Or the whiners in New Westminster's Quayside neighborhood complaining about rail noise; you bought a condo next to the railyard you dummies!
