Best DH fork
My beloved 888's have been spewing oil for months through a chip in the stanchion, and I think I'm finally in the market for a new DH fork. What would you recommend?
I'm looking for a low maintenance fork that is stiff and with more focus on full bikepark days than race runs. Any advice would be very welcome.

Probably get another pair of 888s. They seem to be the go-to fork if you don't want to have to service it every week at the bike park.

The new 888 is boss. Top crown finally allows a boxxer stem and it's light. Really nice fork, best on the market IMO.

Dorados have been running well with low maintenance under some pretty rough riders that i know, but honestly - why would you choose something other than a 888 EVO Ti?
888 EVO Ti - under 2800g with axle (weighed mine at 6.12Lbs - 2779g with full steer tube), long service interval, feels great, easy rebuilds, easy availability of spares. |

Wow, there is a lot of 888 love here. It's funny, because most people I talk to all rave about other options, but just goes to show that they are either racers, love to constantly work on their bikes, or just believe marketing hype that is forced on them by other brands.
OK, I'll look into the new 888's in that case, thanks for the help. Dorados have been on my radar for a while, I've herad nothing but good things, I'm just not sure that the torsional flex will suit my riding style like it does a lot of people.... I may try and get some riding time on them to find out.

Fox 40
Fox 40's for sure. They just track so incredibly well.
Not sure how low maintenance the new 888 is with air preload, etc... Do the 888's even have a ti spring available if you want to increase spring weight? |

They must have put extra metal in mine as it was bang on 3000g +/- 50g on two different scales. Still respectable though. Oil weighs a ton more than air, especially with the amount that is in a 888 vs a Boxxer WC. Last edited by partswhore; 02-22-2012 at 02:42 AM. |
