Cypress Parks Master Plan re mtb trails

This is the time to let your views be known before the decisions are made. Go and let them know!

This email is to let you know about the Parks Master Plan process currently underway, and about the opportunities for public input. Four public workshops are scheduled over the next two weeks - this represents the beginning of the public engagement process for the Parks Master Plan. These workshops have been arranged to be at different locations around the Municipality and on different weekday evenings. Everyone is welcome. The schedule is as follows:

Workshop dates, times and locations:

Thursday, April 28 - West Vancouver Community Centre, 2121 Marine Drive (Dance and Fitness Studio, Second Floor)

Wednesday, May 4 - Sentinel School, 1250 Chartwell Drive, (School Library)

Monday, May 9 - West Vancouver Community Centre, 2121 Marine Drive (Cedar Room, Third Floor)

Tuesday, May 10 - Gleneagles Golf Clubhouse, 6190 Marine Drive (Great Hall)

Times: Each workshop's doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the workshop begins at 7 p.m.

To register (not mandatory but assists us in providing enough resources), please call (604) 925-7130, or email parks@westvancouver.ca.

You can also follow this link for more information: http://www.westvancouver.ca/Resident....aspx?id=33846.
If you are not able to attend but would like to comment, please send us an email or call. We look forward to hearing from you!

This email is being sent to you because you have expressed an interest in West Vancouver's parks. If you would prefer not to receive emails like this in the future, please let me know by return email and I will remove your name from the list.

I'm on the Parks Master Plan Working Group and they're well aware that there's a demand for sustainable mtb trails on Cypress. Mathew and Adam did a great job when they were invited to do a presentation alongside other WVAN stewardship groups.

Input from mtn bikers would be appreciated on other issues too.
  • Protection of the Upper Lands
  • Off-leash dog areas - More or fewer?
  • Tennis courts - More or fewer?
  • How to encourage community involvement
  • Identifying capital priorities
  • Whatever you have on your mind about parks
More info available at westvancouver.ca and NSNews.

The last public forums are Monday & Tuesday evenings. (Tip: Monday's a hockey game. Your voice will be heard clearer if there's fewer people there.)

Is there anything I can do from here? Would an email be of any help?

Thanks Mic, but WVAN is looking for face-to-face input on trails and parks from the people that use them.
  • What values should drive decisions?
  • What priorities should drive choices?
  • What types of parks & trails do you want?
  • Innovative suggestions.
  • Funding! Always looking for funding recommendations!

Alan: is this more about 'traditional' parks rather than land that West Van happens to own? I don't know the geography of the area very well as West Van's maps leave a lot to be desired compared to the DNV equivalents. However, most of the trails on Cypress that I'm aware of aren't in protected 'park land'.

Please correct me if my understanding is wrong...

Can I admit to riding trails in 'Cypress' without incurring the wrath of the council, and good people of WV?

This is about planning parks and trails for the next 10 years, meeting the needs and respecting the values of the park users.

Trails are an merging trend, for hiking, biking and running. If new trails are needed or existing ones need better maintenance, that's what these public input forums are for. We want your honest input.
