Where does Cypress measure its base?
Just curious. Does anyone know exactly where Cypress measures its base, ie, where the measuring stick is? Fairly obviously it's not at the base area (when your base isn't a base?
) Any clues?

At the moment, I'd say they'll measure anywhere they're lucky enough to find a flake of snow!

if they are anything like grouse (who is aparantly hiding there 125cm base somewhere between the bare spots visible on the cut), is right between 2 buildings, where all the snow slides off the roof and piles up.
edit: I thought grouse was bad, cypress is claiming 230cm. lol Last edited by Farmer; 01-24-2010 at 12:37 AM. |

I think most mountains use what has fallen over the winter as their "base".

The measurement is made somewhere between "HR's Peak" and "Administration Valley" on a run called "Marketing Department."

For the most part I trust the measurements on Seymour. They measure in the same spots every year - just west of the base of Mystery, near Devils Drop (wind sheltered) and just below the top of Brockton (also wind sheltered). The measurements are taken using graduated poles and these poles are fixed to the ground.
The measurements are base on naturally packed snow unlike what you are actually skiing on. The groomers will be less. This isn't to say that Seymour doesn't use some interesting marketing techniques. But at least I can go check for myself if I really want to.

All the local mountains take their measurements from imaginary land.
Trust me. |
