Question for all the whistler guys on the board about mid september (14th - 21). How is it? Is garbo still open? We've been going to the mountain for the past 7 years at different times throughout the summer but decided to go later in the year this year...Hoping for some cooler temps, more moisture, and a less punched out park.

When do they usually shut down garbo? I def want to make sure that is open for our trip...Thanks for the help.

I can't afford a new bike right now, and definitely can't buy two. I'm looking to spend somewhere near $1,000 for a bike that I can ride around the local trails and some easier bike park trails (if that's even possible).

I've been looking through pink bike and the local craigslist, but can't really figure out what's suitable.

I've never been in the bike park and I'm pretty new to the sport in general. For now, I'd probably be sticking to primarily XC trails, but I would definitely like to try some of the easier trails in the park.

I was riding an old hardtail dirt jump bike for a few days around the blue Lost Lake trails until I destroyed my rear derailleur on the first toonie ride.

I'm 5'10" / 140lbs, so guessing that's a medium in most bikes? My hardtail is a 17.5" FWIW.

What about something like this?
http://whistler.en.craigslist.ca/bik/3810326169.html

Thanks

One week out…
One more week and we flip the switch. With the amazing spring we have had, opening the Park has been easy, well not easy but easier. If you recall the past two spring seasons we were dealing with record mid mountain snow-pack in 2011 and record snowfalls in March in 2012. We also had May and June last year which were the coldest and wettest on record. This year the record is the complete flip-side, record high temps for the month of May with the mercury pushing well into the high 20s and even 30s for a number of days.

We have used these conditions to our advantage, allowing lots of the snow to melt on its own while we concentrate on getting as much of the lower Park open and buffed as possible. Our goal is to open with a record number of trails on the first day of operations to give you folks the best kick off riding ever!

I won’t list all of what will be open but you can count on the favorites being ready to roll. It is looking like most of the singletrack is good to go, A-line, B-Line, Crank-it-Up, Ninja Cougar, Karate Monkey and even Crabapple Hits!

The ultimate goal is to have Dirt Merchant for day one. The snow has been removed and it is drying out nicely, if it continues to be warm and mostly dry we should be able to make that a reality setting a record for its earliest ever opening.

If you want to keep tabs on things over the next week as we get closer follow us on Instagram @whistlerbikeprk where we will be posting the progress daily.

See you in a week!
