Anyone else having trouble viewing NSMB with Chrome?

I'm getting a 'bad request' page when I try to open anything that's on the NSMB domain using Chrome. I used Safari to get here. Anyone remember the trick for getting Chrome to smarten up?

Kids trail

Hi all,

I would like to find a kids bike track on the north side, a paved oval or circuit where the kids can go at their own pace and stay in sight. My kids are 2 and 3, one on a run bike and one on a "proper" bike. Two kids and a dog is too much for one adult on the "linear" trails we usually use.

Yet another Expresso thread

We are about to do our first Expresso Trail Day, on May 27th along with Digger and the MEC TAP crew, and I wanted to start another thread to get some more input.

Jerry and Digger did a walk through with Graham Knell from the District and the directive that came down afterwards involved removing many of the wood structures, several of which are beyond repair.

We have already received some a lot of feedback in this thread (320 posts worth) but I wanted to focus it a bit more.

We know that we won't be able to please everyone but we'd like to be able to achieve some balance rather than simply doing as we see fit. We'd also love to see those of you with strong opinions coming out to join us on the 27th.

A question I have after a walk through yesterday is, do you care what the trail looks like? There are many sections of this trail that look like Bagdad after Dessert Storm. The trail is often a wide swath with multiple lines, many of them crappy. Does this worry you or do you have no concern about aesthetics while you are riding?

My plan is to post a few images laying out some of the recommendations from Digger, Jerry and Graham. I realize that this transparency may be a serious headache but it aligns with the way we like to conduct ourselves.

Here is the first installment with text from the Trail Assessment.

Problem: 1st feature on Expresso. Stringers are rotten and slats are worn and some are missing.
Solution: Remove hollowed out wood slabs (1st pic) and smooth out line with gold. Remove ladder bridge (2nd pic) and replace with shorter bridge and stringers. (note - this ladder and virtually all of the stunts, were added long after Expresso was first built. This particular ladder, as an example, is a relatively recent addition).

Problem: This is an alternative line to the above and is not doable at present state.
Solution: Put some rocks down and crib it in after.

To reiterate; we are not going to be able to please everyone. Some of the you may lose a line you that is one of your favourites. Our hope is to create a fun, challenging and sustainable line that attracts more riders and takes some of the pressure off the other lines on that flank. Despite Expresso having a group of vocal and passionate fans, it is one of the least trafficked trails after the 5th switchback. This means trails like Ladies, Pipeline, Leppard/Krinkem and Oilcan see more riders and require more maintenance.

Hopefully we have some credibility after our efforts on Dale's as a founding member of TAP, but Expresso is a very different trail.

Mountain biking's given me a surprising number of laughs today. "Ultramundane" actually had me spit my morning coffee out, and then later today perusing my latest copy of Bike I came across the new Race Face ad.

Love it, RF folks. Kudos to you for doing something that extends past the usual "beauty shot of product/shot of rider doing something ridiculous" snorefest that pervades bike advertising. It's nice to see an actual idea in a mountain bike ad, not just for the sake of being clever but one that actually builds brand recall.

And Tippie, you're all kinds of awesome.

Besides passing by the occasional "hiker" who looks like they may have escaped from an asylum or just dumped a body, my adventures have mostly involved the normal stuff...bears, coyotes, deer, snake.

I'm betting some of you, especially those who venture out into the middle of buttfuckall for epics, have something to share.

Why do I ask? I have a recent obsession with the plane that went down in 1956 on Slesse Mountain in Chiliwack along with a liking of anything remotely Blair Witch Project.

first aid kits

Does anyone ride with a first aid kit on the shore? What essential items do you carry? Does anyone carry a CPR mask? Thinking about adding one to my ride essentials. (I work in the downtown east side, where I would not even consider blowing into a strangers mouth without a mask.)

Potential Bike park at Mount Seymour?

Now that Mount Seymour is changing to a high speed Lift. It could potentially be a local destination mountain for downhill mountain biking. Especially with all the established trails along the lower part of Mount Seymour. The mountain is already world renowned for it's bike trails so building a bike park with it's brand new lift system would be a phenomenal draw for all local and tourist bikers. Has anybody heard any scuttlebutt about this?

Shore Play Braiding and Braiding in General

This topic is probably as old as the hills but man is Shore Play getting messed up. Some of the corner cutting is so bad it's making the original "proper" lines very difficult.

I've also noticed a lot of new lines cutting straight through sections of Wild Cherry. The long rock closer to the bottom of 5th Horseman has a new line cleared around a tree that avoids the gnarly root crossing. Where does this shit come from? Now the rock is super greasy because people are skidding mud all over it. Even in the rain that rock was super tacky. Now it's becoming a mess.

What to do?

A mountain biker has reportedly been killed near West Vancouver’s Cypress Bowl.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene just before 2 p.m. Monday when someone called to report an accident on Coiler trail about a kilometre from the fourth switchback of Cypress Bowl Road.

The middle-aged victim had apparently been riding the winding path when he was severely injured.

Police, fire and ambulance crews hiked into the area on foot. The man died at the scene.
