adjusting the bite point on slx brakes

can it be done?

i put my slx (667) brakes on my son's bike last week. the reach adjust + lever shape = perfect for little hands... but he can get them all the way back to the bars before the brakes lock, so i'm hoping to reduce the amount of free stroke and get them to bite a bit sooner

xt and xtr brakes have external reach adjust (although the jury seems to be out one whether it does much). anyone have any experience or thoughts adjusting the bite point on slx brakes?

with the old shimano's you could set the bite point while bleeding the brakes, i think

No Err > Walkers End > JK Traverse > Hand Job > Jim Jam then back up the trail under the powerline to the Mosquito Lake access road.

Worth doing? (I'm specifically trying to AVOID Battery Park (24) seeing as it's a double black diamond trail.

Or is the powerline climb brutal and should I just climb up Reid Road instead?
