Is it worth taking my bike? Any pointers to trail maps or bikes shops where I can get directions?

I rode the Peat Bog last week, it was in pretty good shape. I've heard an area called Arawana is good, although I've never figured out where it is.

The Bike Barn in town should be able to direct you. It's a shuttle though, unless you're into a long ass ride up a dusty gravel road with big trucks flying by.

Don't let the description scare you, full suspension isn't needed (is it needed anywhere?) and if you're used to the trails around here you won't find it technical. There's ride arounds for every obstacle.

The only one of Smoke's pictures I recognize is the last one, I'm going to have to do some exploring next time I'm there.

you have a big enough truck to fit your bike, the washer, dryer, AND stove?

if you gotta ride up to code 4 stick your thumb out and hitch a ride up, it worked for me once.

Thanks for all the information.

Fortunately we left the kitchen stove at home and the riding turned out to be pretty damn good. I could get used to this flowey, fast single-track stuff and away from the rock/root gnar, for a little while anyway. Tried Silver Star for the first time and MAN, I am hooked on that place, will be going back for sure.

Here are some photos from Penticton:

Some of the climb ups were a tad hot, but check out the blue skies!

Once we got to the top the views were well worth it:

And the signal track was the dogs’ dangles:

http://photos.nsmb.com/files/2/5/1/7/4/Penticton2.jpg

Look at the form, peddles level, arms up and out, weight nicely behind the seat, focused 100 yard stare …. just wish his old dad could ride as well!

That's Campbell's for sure.

There's a new line up the Bog now too. Dax just got the first half of his new trail done last week. A bit lower angle, flowier and longer. Should have it completely finished by fall, and possibly a new option to the valley by next year.

Just flowy singletrack for starters. I think it will get more interesting over time.

I'm plotting my fall project now. Either the Bog or Powers, and lots of maintenance work on existing stuff.

Campbell DH it is!

If you go to Freedom in town they will give you a map. If you know Penticton at all just head out towards the dump (reservoir road i think) and just before you get there, turn right to go up the north side of Campbell (you can see it on the Google map satellite image) If you have a 4x4 you can shuttle right to the top.
