Does anyone know why Krickum Krankum is closed? I did a search and couldn't find anything but someone has to know something!

Krinkum Krankum is closed because the winter rains eroded a chasm near the end. Lots of trees perched on the edge, ready to fall on the heads of the unwary.

Yeah, the chasm and all that is potentialy dangerous whereas the skinnies jumps steeps etc. above and below and all around are perfectly safe. And there are no other trees in the entire forest ready to fall on an unsuspecting forest.

Sorry, let me rephrase that.
Sorry, I don't think I understand what you mean.
It is closed because at the end of it (when you come into Roadside and Upper Griffin) There was a ladder over a gorge. It is now 15ft deeper and 15ft across. WITH NO LADDER! I learned this the hard way and had no clue, you almost ride into it. Don't ride it unless you can fly...:eek2:

Except the trail fairies put in a new ladder. (As I see it) The danger spot currently is the exit/entrance at the third switchback. The chasm there could catch someone off guard if they were to ride downhill out from Krinkum Krankum.

According to DNV, the trail is still closed since it poses a hazard crossing either chasm (aka gapping maul of death). Consider yourself warned of the risks.

I was being sarcastic because I don't see the chasm as being any more dangerous than riding Fromme in general. Yes it is nice to have a warning and maybe I don't know tha e trail that well but I fail to see how you could ride into it without seeing it. The cynic in me sees this as a CYA by the powers that be (paranoid) .

i dunno Oldfart. there's a high concentration of sketchy trees in that area who had multiple land slides go by them. i certainly wouldn't hang out there in any kind of wind or rain storm.
Rode it this AM its all good with that bridge in place

Krinkum is generally considered to be a "beginner" (by Fromme standards) trail. No really big, high commitment moves. So the typical rider on that trail is not as comfortable with high, skinny bridges and other obstacles as many others on Fromme. The trail has changed significantly, so the closure is based on the assumption that the changes have increased the risk factor for some portions of the trail to something beyond the skills of the typical rider of same.
Of course it's a CYA ... but not all CYA decisions are wrong!
