I know this is NSMB, but thought its worth a shot to ask this here.
Anyone know if there is any decent riding in or around Lethbridge AB? With some research I have found like 1 DHish style trail and everything else seems to be street and skate park. Am I going to be out of luck for riding? Other than packing up the car and driving to Fernie for lift access, are there any shuttle stuff around?
Thanks.

Are you serious? I think you need to get a life.
PM Shrew. He used to live there. But as I recall, you won't find anything good. Just some jumps. The occasional hill with a singletrack run. It's Alberta; it's flat. What do you expect?
A guy who works in our office in LBG claims there is decent XC.
enjoy the wind

Thanks for the super usefull info!!!!!! I really appreciate it. Its exactly what I was asking for. :stupid:
Dicso, I really apprectiate your effort. This is a pretty big move for me and want to make sure I am making the right decision. Even if there is decent XC stuff, thats ok cus i can always road trip it for the Dh stuff.
Im sure lethbridge has its pluses, but fack man that wind, I coudnt do it.

longest run you're gonna get is about 30 seconds.
No one really rides there anymore but there's a couple one hit wonders, and a few dirt jumps that aren't maintained.
I'd suggest not moving there, but if you have to.. Fernies about a 2 hour drive.

drop in went there in either season 1 or 2.
there would have to be a real big employment benefit to trade the loops for lethbridge.

my friend reports be prepared for lots of road trips to banff and/or canmore if you want DH. lots of x/c at cypress provincial park but its "dry and dusty" in the summer. "writing on stone" provincial park as well. also the bow river valley has a fair amount of decent x/c trails as well. He also says there is a fair amount of decent single track and DH accross the border in Idaho and Montana. But either way you're going to have to travel to get what you are looking for.
and GeoffG, you've obviously never been on the prairies or you would know there are hills there just like everywhere else.

Thanks for the info all. I always said it would have to take an awefull lot to get me to move from Kamloops, and the time has come and that oppertunity has come to be. But I still have the rest of this summer to hit anything I haven't hit yet before moving in Oct.
I guess there are tradeoffs to eevrything in life and this is going to have to be one of them. Bummed but what can you do.

Please. I was born in Edmonton. I've been there, and all over Alberta quite a few times. When I said there are no hills, I meant that you won't find 5 minute runs with steep rock gardens. There are hills, not mountains.

good grief, i know exactly where they are, i lived in alberta until 1988, so I'm very familiar with where everything is located. since i didn't think they figured out how to move that much acreage as of yet, I did say he would need to make a roadtrip to get to them.
or is it just that you don't know how to comprehend what you are reading. They have courses for that now, you might want to look into taking one.
FW good luck with your decision. Lethbridge is alright, suprisingly enough it kind of reminds me of the 'loops. right now though sorry i even bothered to help ya out, since all i ever seems to get for doing so is attitude.

DW I thank you for your info and encouragement. I really do appreciate it. From the time I have spent in LB (very short period) I did find it kinda like Loops but a bit flatter. Just as many 4x4 trucks though.
Maybe I need to invest in a moto instead of the Dh rig. Hmmmm.

i was offered a maintenance management position for mccain 2-3 years ago and after being flown out there several times i concluded that the area was inhabitable by myself so i said fuck it. the j-dawg requires concrete and a low numerical value that represents the red neck population.
what ever is leading you to alberta is evil, go to church and pray before its too late! ........and don't sign anything.
Hey Whacker...I heard from a semi reliable source that there are trails in the Crows Nest Pass as well. I don't know how many and I would suspect they are XC but at least there are some closer options than say Fernie....

LOL...thats awesome.
I don't really want to let the cat out of the bag before the deal is set in stone ( it basically is now, but needs a final stamp of approval by the lawyers), but lets just say that my wife and I are finally realizing our dream of owning our own business. The oppertunity came up in Lethbridge and we pounced. There are only 2 things that I would consider staying in Kamloops for, 1) Biking 2) Fishing. And considering both those two are recreational passtimes, I have to look at the bigger picture and keep my eye on the prize. I am not getting any younger so business is taking precident over pleasure for now. And there will be some good trade offs. My winter season for snowboarding and backcountry touring will significantly improve in that location as well as the Interior BC sucks for touring.
Considering I originally came to BC from Saskatchewan 7-8 years ago, I still consider Alberta and specifically Lethbridge a one up from there. You can still technically see mountain from LB and lots of stuff in the area to do.
I guess I better start looking at getting a better XC rig now and ditch the hard tail I have currently.

awesome, and there is good fishing in Alberta. There's a very good trout stream, just south of Rocky mountain house, the james river, my dad fished there just about every summer. And if you want really good back country, go to Grande Cache. There are also a couple of awesome lakes there as well but i can't remember their names. North of Edmonton in Athabasca country are a shitload of little lakes with good stocks of pickeral and jackfish. (can ya tell i come from fishin' folk, lol.)

Malakwa, just up the road from the Loops has epic touring as well as Revelstoke.

What's the biz? Just moved to lethbridge a few weeks ago and there is limited cycling here. Not bad short XC loops in the Coulee and a couple bike shops run weekly van/shuttle trips to the Fernie area for big bike stuff.
Good luck with whatever you are starting off on

That's only 45 min closer than Fernie, and FWhacker seems to be aware that we exist and not only that, seems quite willing to drive the 2-2.5 hrs to get a DH fix on the correct side of the BC/Alberta border. The drive is a breeze compared to the slightly shorter Vancouver-Whistler and I don't see a shortage of people making that ritual pilgrimage. We got it all here, shuttle DH's, Lift-serviced DH, lots of XC too.
