I've been lift assisted riding and have the oppurunity to go to Whistler tomorrow (Sunday). Most of my riding buddies are flakes when it comes to getting out and no one wants/is available to head up for the day. Should I bother going by myself or wait until someone is able to join me?

throw in some tunes in one ear and ride singles and cruise all day, you will meet someone on the lifts and if not you can do top to bottoms without stopping and not have to worry about looking behind you......

riding solo is its own kind of fun. Sure a group dynamic makes things more interesting but you can workshop things and not worry about holding people up when rolling solo.
As stated above, you will meet some folks on the lift and maybe find someone to do a lap or three with. Of course, if you do go alone, you dont have to worry about line agreement and trail choice :) But you will have to be concerned about being found if you hurt yourself. On a Sunday that won't be much of an issue but something worth weighing in on.

My last two years were alone. I had a blast. You will meet people on the lift, and
some you will ride with, have a beer with later, some you just kind of stare forward
like you do in an elevator or the public urinal. Good new is you got lots to look
at.
The only issue I had were going on some of the less used trail worrying about getting
hurt. Happened on Detroit Rock city, I sat in a heap for quite some time before I
could get back to my feet, get my breath etc. No one came by in the few minutes
I was there. This was during Crankworks weekend. So I found myself, going a little
less hard and staying on the more used trails (FT, AL, DM, etc). You will have a
blast. See if any of us will be there while you're there, and offer to buy us a
pint or two after.... You'll have lots of "friends"...haha!
I hooked up with a Whistler locals on the lift, we rode 3-4 runs on Garbo. The
real cool thing was, I got to see lines I didn't know were there. Go make some
friends, we're all there for the same thing, right?

Going solo is really fun, I like it more, I don't have to worry about leaving people behind or keeping up with the pack, or pushing myself. ITs way more relaxing just ripping down alone, I love it, and if you go onto a harder trail wher esomeone may not find youm just take 'er easy
My only concern about riding alone would be who drives home if I get hurt?
I'll be there tomorrow.

I ride alone when waiting for friends to show up or after they have left. I always talk to the person I'm riding with and most of the time the other guy asks if he/she can ride with me because they dont know trails or just wanna ride with someone.
I met another kid my age riding alone last year around this time and we rode together for a couple of days. Yesterday, I loaded the chair with him not even knowing he was here. He said my name and we totally remembered eachother!

I have ridden alone for the past 3 years and it doesn't bother me one bit. And like everyone has said you can always find someone to ride with.

I'd happy to ride with whoever - I'm usually riding M-F, orange Yeti ASX, peakless red/white Giro Remedy.

really can one not have fun riding WBP? and it's not like you will ever see an absence of riders, anyway.

a definite bonus to riding solo: on account of not stopping to recollect the group and taking the singles line, you really get alot of runs in in one day.

i've had all my best days riding solo...always get so many runs in cant even hold on to the bars by the end of the day... riding with ppl is good if it makes you push yourself, but riding on your own you really just enjoy being up on the mountain cruising at your own pace...cheers

I rode solo today and met two guys on the chair up garbo and rode all day with them. They wanted me to show them some trails. I had someone to ride with and they had a great time and so did I!

For sure go ride on your own... on the local trails you should not be riding alone (especialy dirtjumping) because in a remote area, you fall down by your self and there is no one to help you. A bike park or resort is a prefect place because you can ride alone and even if you do fall, there is always going to be traffic reliably comming down the mountain to your aide.
Some people argue when they ride on their own, "Oh I have a cell phone and I know my local trail." Even so, a tree falls across the way and you dont know about it in a fast bit, you eat it hard and you are unconcious or worst case par**ised with no way of helping yourself.
Anyway thats my too takes on it,
I have had a friend who has died dirtjumping and it would have been alot worse had he not been with friends to get him help right away.

That's one of the oddest statements I have ever read...Sorry about your friend...but I don't know how it could be worse.
I ride alone pretty much all the time. On the mountain, on single track. I just limit what I do. I live the adventurous riding for when I have people around that can pull me out if I screw up

I love riding solo, i can just bomb down a run without looking back to see if my friends are following. Down, up again, stop when you want to stop

Mountain biking is ultimately a SOLO SPORT. You and YOU ALONE are in control of your vehicle and there's very little group interaction when you're sessioning some gnar gnar. DO IT.

I rode for the first week this year by myself. I love it. You get to choose what you want to ride. Don't have to wait for anyone. You can just do a continuous run all day.
You can also get lucky and start talking with someone on the lift. I met a kid on his third day on the mountain and I see him all the time up on the mountain and we just rip it every once in a while. There's always people to ride with and if you're social enough to get in a conversation with them, you can easily find a ton of people to ride with.
