I definitely don't have the advanced bus taking skills that you have. I'm guessing that's because I can afford to not take a bus.

good one.
I'd say your options are: pay the bus/wagon whatever they want or get a car and a job and learn the price one pays to drive. That'll give you some respect of the actual costs of driving and stop your grom whining.

I have a question that is relevant to this topic. It says on the greyhound.ca website that you can take a bike unboxed for an extra $10 if space allows. It fails to however say if you can put your bike in at a flagstop ie. Taylor Way stop. Does anyone have any personnal experience with this? If I just wait at the stop will the driver get off and help me put my bike in? Or can I only put it in at the terminal...?

I'm sure if the bus driver is in a good mood, he won't charge you the extra $10...

Okay so Ill outline the whole day and how it worked. We got up and drove out to the Bus Depot for the 8 oclock bus to whistler. The night before we had previously bought the tickets online. We had to pay $10 each way for the bikes so it ended up to be like $62 after all was said and done. It worked fine, they treated the bikes well and no scratches or problems on the bus. The bus going home was an hour late but that wouldn't have mattered if we had or hadn't had the bikes. Same thing except this time they even let us put our bikes on the bottom. It worked well but the Huck Wagon ends up being cheaper and easier but it doesn't go everyday at multiple times during the day.

Its more than the Huck Wagon, but it doesn't go everyday so I guess its worth it.

Yep I did this yesterday as well. Cost me a touch under $60 so the guys who booked online might have a booking fee or credit card fee.
I boarded the bus at the stop on marine drive just over the Lions gate bridge, it also picks up at Taylor Way as well. details here http://www.whistlerbus.com/guide.html
Bus driver didn't take any money when I boarded, I got off in Squamish (not the downtown stop but the second one where there is a small greyhound depot) and bought my ticket there. I was told to buy a return as it was cheaper which I did. Like I said $59.83 or something really close to 60 bucks. I paid cash cause I thought I might have to give money to the driver but the squamish stop had credit card and bankcard facilities as far as I could see.
Bike is just placed in the large bins under the bus, plenty of room for me on a monday morning but weekends might be busier so if you really wanted peace of mind then it might be best to go into the downtown depot early.
I rode whistler yesterday including A Line and got to tick off something on the things to do before I die list. Stoked.

Did he just let you put it on at a flagstop? Did you pre-book or anything like that? Call the night before maybe?

Sure did. According to Greyhound website and the drivers I spoke to on the day the Van-Whistler run is the only one where you can put an unboxed bike on a bus.
So yep I just flagged down the bus, threw my bike in and off I went. It happens pretty regularly I reckon, all the drivers were used to it. I did call the night before to check that I could do it but I didn't pre book (although I did pre book my bike on my return trip that evening when I bought my ticket in the morning.)
I reckon Greyhound should be commended for recognising the need for this change to their rules and allowing it for this particular route. Either that or the whistler people came to an agreement, who knows.
