hey bike park riders . . . . . just wanted to let you know about some of the work going on around the mountain , and some things you should watch out for , which will help you have a safe and fun summer in WBP .

as you probably know , the peak to peak ( P2P ) gondola is underway , in addition to all the olympic venue construction . there are now numerous heavy vehicles travelling up and down the mountain roads , including concrete trucks , loaded logging trucks , earth moving equipment , heavy transport trucks , various road maintenance vehicles , as well as all the usual mountain traffic .

most of the operators of this equipment know little about bikes , bikers , and bike parks , and are understandably nervous about operating their equipment in our midst while we are ripping around , doing what they would probably rather be doing .

we can help out , and stay healthy , by respecting these guys and their vehicles . all the road crossings , except A-LINE , will be managed by chicanes constructed of traffic pylons ; the same kind as you see on the highway projects . please do not move these out of the way so you can go across the road faster . we want riders to slow right down before crossing , whether you can see traffic or not . any collision between a vehicle and a rider is going to have one loser , and it won't be the truck !!

also , we are really discouraging ( as we always have ) any unnecessary bike traffic on the roads . if you are riding a flat , or some other mechanical failure , down the road stay well off to the side and travel very slowly . expect oncoming vehicles that aren't expecting to see you . if you find yourself in a dust cloud , GET OFF THE ROAD . do not use the road to bypass a section you don't want to ride , or to catch up with your buddies .

we're stoked that the garb area is opening this weekend , but we want to remind you that , sadly , no joke is no longer open below bear cub . the area below bear cub is undergoing major changes . there is active logging , use of explosives , and drastic changes to the topography . do not be tempted to drop in to see what is left of no joke , just for kicks , because i can tell you the workers down there do not receive " guest service training " and will definitely NOT be happy to see you , no matter what your excuse is !

as far as access to " ride , don't slide " and " the khyber pass " is concerned we can't recommend passing through the work site either during or after hours due to the changing nature of the site .

thanks for taking the time to read this , please heed the advice , and we hope you have a safe and fun summer on the bike .

Isn't there still too much snow to even think about the trek up to ride and kyber?

either way, thanks for the post! consider it stuck.

After Atlantis - if you're going to Karate Monkey from B-Line. This is a bad crossing, becase it is on a steep grade and not that visible for the trucks.

There were some close calls this last weekend coming out of lower worldcup/clownshoes/detroit and into the boneyard...some dude had to crash to avoid crossing the street due to a truck that he didn't bother looking for before going mach chicken into the road crossing...

i almost got tagged heading towards karate monkey by a cyclist coming down the road...i looked/listened for trucks and when I crossed a biker and I barely missed each others' path...that would have sucked

well then why is there a vanoc first aid truck stopped beside aline at the top road crossing arrainging the cones into a chicane this morning, then my next lap up one cone knocked over next lap both sides moved out of the way.

also chicanes used on the road crossing before longhorn, and end of h of d, same with crossin from lower whis dh to biker x. like patrol says all they do is build fences all day long and yea thats all some of see of them luckily.....ill be sure to watch for fences this season cause theres never any warning of them on the trail before u hit it.

you're sharp , parksvilleguy . . . . the vanoc truck didn't get the memo about leaving a-line clear

because the grade there allows heavy vehicles to stop and start , the sight lines up and down the road are good , we were able to convince the powers that be that that crossing is safer to allow riders to go through , rather than have them crash into each other at a stop ( that most would probably ignore anyway )

however , at all the other crossings we ask that riders slow right down , and confirm the road is clear before proceeding . if there is a vehicle oncoming , either stop to allow him to pass , or confirm through eye contact and hand gestures that you can go .

please do not move the pylons so you can blow through faster .

more dangerous for you = more work for us . . . .
