Mods, can we have a thread for Silver Star? It's my first year up there with a pass, and I will forewarn you that everytime after I come back, there will be new posts:lol:
A thread for all that is Silver Star! It was an amazing opening weekend for me. Rode with Sheffy, progressed a shitload, and fell in love with Pipe Dream:shhh: and all the other trails we rode. got in 11 runs! Met all the crew from bike patrol too, they are amazing guys!
Stoked to ride it when I get back from Van after july long. Share your stories about SS, and ask questions here!

I have one question- I saw the pics of the new wood stunts on DD. I saw the ladder leading into the QP. What happens when your in a group of riders pretty close to each other for that section? Does only one person get to hit the QP?
Jaysin

there is another way you can dodge around that section... but only one person on the quarter at a time, yes.

Was at Vpsfest. Silverstar is a pretty cool mountain but the lift line system was friggin retarded! what's with having most runs funneling to one lineup, and one trail going into the front of that lineup.Who ever designed that system is an idiot!! Pissed off alot of people in the lineup. We learned the "cheater way" into the line after seeing guys were having multiple runs while we were still waiting in the lineup. Just stupid!

yep, but not complaining. The rest of the trail is just too much fun to bitch about the last minute of it. Last year we used to ride up the paved path and catch the bottom of Double Dog instead of the last part of the WC
If they carried the WC through the trees in the same fashion as the rest of the trail it would be incredible.

Hey Kid have you ever built before....I really doubt it....its not the easiest thing to do!!!!!!...You really seem to complain alot for such a young punk???? The trail crew did their best job at their first attempt at building a pump track and they know the whole thing doesnt flow the best
but most of it works just fine(and they will be fixing it eventually)........suck it up and enjoy what Sorensen and his crew bust their asses building!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you just lurk around the forum waiting for me to post and then MAKE attempts to 'burn' me? To answer your question yes I have. I pay good money to ride up there so i think i have the right to complain if need be. The rest of the mountain is amazing it's just that horrid section of trail that me and my friends always avoid. why should i suck it up? that's kind of like going to a restaurant and the chef shitting on a plate and serving it to you, and you suck it up and eat it cause he worked ever so hard to squeeze that nugget out.
PS- don't send me anymore pm's threatening to ban me, last time i checked you ain't shit.

hey guys...
Silver is amazing, cant complain at all. just started on as bike patrol so makes it even better to ride amazing trails and fill the bank account. now lets reply and get a few things straight here for you.
the "cheater line" is a green run down from the village it was put into place so the ma and pa type didnt have to wait in the long lines because chances are they would onl;y make one or two runs and we didnt want to discourage them from riding because of all the lil and big mountain bike punks that rip that it. if you wanna miss blast off and go for a rip down afire road your call its a legit was to miss a sick trail and budge the line.
as for world cup, too many people were getting hurt on those amazing amazing tables that we all loved at the bottom so they had to go. the pump track was a first for the guys, and on thursday good ol cam got the machine in there and fixed it up so its got more flow and you only go into the trees once, and the berm is nicer before the triple. and the step up before that is cut down. so just giver and its a nice lil change on the hill from riding the usual.
as for the new trail SHAZAM its a mini pipedream. for anyone scared to hit pipe this will be your new fav warm up. a step up from super star with some natural flow. its a lil soft right now, but look at pipe last year. mini doubles and berms, and a good ol time.
Pipe dream - coming from a ripper and a patrol - please please please roll it once or twice. its a sick sick trail but its not what your gonna expect so there is a mysterious side to it. its an amazing trail that you have to check out. great doubles, huge berms, step up's and down's....MONEY. just roll it to get used to it please. my buddy mike went down super hard on the step up onto the first rode. got caught up on the snow fence and ejected him self 15 feet to flat onto the road. 6 months no work, 2 broken ribs, smashed T9, broken hip, fractured pelvis, bruised ribs, and he was fully geared. so taker easy i dont wanna be carrying anyone out. but enjoy the ride of your life.
anywho that's my post for the week, im back off to the star after a day off, and whistler for crank works soon :)

I think alot of the complaints are from people pushing back up the hill and cutting through the bush to get to the trail leading into the short line. You could see them from the lift line. We saw a few people coming down Blast Off and cutting under the ribbon after the bridge and hitting the road down too.
Outside of VPSfest (busiest SilverStar day in history?) no one would ever likely feel the need to do this, as the lines aren't that long. Even at VPSfest I don't think we ever waited more than 20 minutes. Isn't that a normal Whistler weekend wait?
seand
07-09-2007, 11:10 AM
Oh...yeah that. I gave some dude an earful last year on last weekend up at SS. The lines were massive and we asked a patrol how to get to that other fence to make our line waiting shorter. We saw a guy cutting under the ribbon and refused to let him in. We told him if he asked everyone in line that he was cutting if it was okay, we would let him in. Funny, even after we got on the lift and looked back, he was still trying to fight his way in.

I really have to agree that it would be awesome to see a whole new forum on "Bike Parks".
Then you can move Whistler underneath it, add ones for Sun Peaks, Silver Star, Kicking Horse, and yes - even other parks outside the Holy Land <gasp>!!!
If people want to start posting like mad about their local bike park, then great, we can all read about it, and it will make us want to travel and support these parks (which are in many cases, scraping by economically and needing our business in order to continue operations, and enhance their trails and facilities.)
Another 2 cents on the pile...

Ahahah so today I took my girlfriend up to Silverstar for her first time mountain biking ever. She hasn't touched a bike in years.
We start to head down Blast Off towards the lift, she skids out in the loose stuff in the steep (for her) second berm, and falls onto her back. I realize that the trails aren't as flat to her as they are to me, and we walk back up to take the road towards the lift. She is having a good time.
She makes it down Challenger very will, and only crashes once (gets distracted and doesn't realize she's grabbing the front brake or something, then flips over right to her face/chest), but she is having a very good time. She's getting used to riding a bike again, and learning some of the basics (I spent a bit of effort making sure she would keep one foot forward and her weight over the seat, instead of one foot down and her weight over the bars). She did that thing in the skills park with the three rollers, so she was really happy about that.
Now someone tells us we should try Superstar, so we do that. She is actually doing very well, caught a bit of sweet air a few times, and rode almost everything. A bit of the ways down, she gets too much speed and flips over the backside of a berm face first. She ended up on the ground, with a short branch from a log ripping through her shorts. I lifted her up and untangled her... she is scraped a bit but is still having fun. We fix her shorts with the help of a zip-tie, and head down.
She was doing a lot better than she was at the start, so I figure she can do Blast Off now. She makes it down everything, walking a few of the berms that scared her, but after the trail, at the gravel road before the lift, she sketches out on a bumpy, loose section, and goes down hard. We end up in the Silverstar medical place with a nice lady spending a bunch of time cleaning up all of her cuts (some of which were pretty bad). Then we went to a walk-in clinic in Kelowna to get her wounds properly dressed and to make sure nothing was more serious. She had big scrapes and bruises on her pelvis, thighs, elbows, and pretty bad cuts on her knee.
She actually had fun though, on the drive back to Kelowna she was talking about how she wants to buy a bike and armor and stuff for next summer.
PS: Challenger is a really well built, well thought-out run and I was impressed. It's smooth and flat enough for beginners, but there are lots of little things that they can progress on, and little things on the side to amuse better riders.

Sounds like a keeper!
I had my first trip up there this weekend and it was awesome. World Cup and Rockstar are sweet.

We arrived Saturday evening - wheee!!
I've written off Sunday as I have a FEROCIOUS case of jet lag/travel fatigue and will probably manage nothing more than re-assembling the bikes, sussing out some lift passes and drooling into a blankie on the couch. A 16 hour flight from Perth followed by the drive from YVR to Vernon the following day - I'm completely knackered.
If anyone is on the hill during the week, I'm on a Glory 0 and my girl has a blue Reign. So yell hello if you see us!

Oh, this place is FAN-TASTIC! I'm a drooling mess and I only did half a dozen runs today. I'm sure you can see back through time in some of those berms. Kept telling myself to get the hell off the brakes and pitch it in, searching for flow.
For me, coming from DH runs of 2.5 minutes long, this is a candy shop. "What do you want to ride?" "I just don't know! It all looks so good!"

Hey L2R/R2L. My favorite trail was Doubledog I liked all the stunts and especialy the fast flowy single track after the curved wall ride thingy. Really liked pipedream, rockstar, worldcup to. My kid and his buddy who are both 13 and aline dirtmerchant addicts liked rockstar, pipedream and loved pinning into the stepup by the chairlift at the bottom of worldcup.

LOL. Our diplomatic strategy consists of buying beers for our adversaries until they come around to our way of thinking. :)
A lovely clear mountain day today - can't wait to get out there and pin it. Bit sore this morning, though! Hopefully today I can relax a bit more on the bike and not get so tense across the shoulders. The gradient and flow here builds speed more than I'm used to so my eyes are getting wide real fast and I'm strangling the bars a bit.
There's a few braking bumps about but as my mate would tell me - harden the $#@& up, Princess!
The list of trails I haven't hit yet is considerable but we have a few days left here and I ain't leaving without ticking all the boxes!

That thing bit me SO hard today! It was like that bit in Earthed 3 at the Megavalanche when the guy loses his bike down the mountain and it just keeps going. Once I picked myself out of the shale and recovered my trusty steed, I found the bars had spun three times and sheared the banjo bolt on the front Hope clean off, plus destroyed my front X7 shifter. And to think I purposely went for a set of single crowns.
Pushed back up, knotted everything out of the way and rolled Superstar back to the Cross Valley Trail, feeling pretty damn silly.
I've got a badly corked thigh and one hell of a graze/bruise on my right side. I'll wait til the colours come out before posting a pic. Should be a ripper. I've got a 2-day pass so I'm not keen to convalesce tomorrow!
Back to the spare Juicy 5s and a single front ring! Hope the local bike shops can help with the spares (no pun intended).

The helmet cam footage is hilarious. There's just treetops in the shot until Sheffy's head pops in from the top of the frame - "You alright, man?", and he kindly drags the bike off me. Apologies if I got in anyone's way, too.
Other than that embarrassing dismount, after which I carried around a sample of native flora in my helmet (yes, we took a picture), we had a fantastic day on the hill! Pipedream is still for the most part devoid of braking bumps and today I felt I did alright on it.
Awse to have a brew with you guys after the ride and tell fishing stories - we can't wait to come back! I hope the hill is open for '08.
Thanks to the bike park management & staff, the lifties, the patrol and HUGE props to the trail crew for a pinning hill. You absolutely rock and I raise aloft a Heineken to you... albeit slowly and gingerly. Cheers to the riders from all over that we met on the lift and by the trailside.

Just home from a fantastic weekend up there. Just had to thank everybody at the mountain who made my stag the most fun ever. To all the lifties, sorry we didn't have enough t-shirts. To the hill and the community in general, it was great enough that 3 new riders became hooked. I have a feeling that the buy and sell will see some action shortly.

Hey, I was the one who dragged the bike off you! That was hilarious! I tried to take the tree limb out of your helmet but it was there for good!
Hands up who ate it today on World Cup whilst waving at someone?

So anyone who says Silverstar is not fun in the rain has never done laps on Dags while wet. That trail is hands down, the best trail on the mountain when wet. You can ride it faster wet than you can dry!
Everyone who left because of some wet conditions on Sunday really missed out! Sure it was freezing and wet but the riding was just plain sick. Monday rolled around and things had dried out quite a bit from Sunday's rain. Downtown was insane. Tacky, no dust...just fun. Dags was even faster!
If that place does not open next season, I at least have two final days of riding there that will forever bring a smile to my face!

Had a blast, we came up Sat. and did 3 runs with a 2 run pass at the end of the day, did Superstar, Dags and WC that day, those berms are cool and Superstar is soo much fun....we then drank beer afterwords at the beer fest....then it pissed rain Sunday early morning so we were hesitant to get out but we donned the rain gear and rode in the cold, but it wasn't really wet just grippy, we rode every trail except for Challenger and Double Dog, DD was closed most times we came up the lift. Then it down poured just after 3pm and drenched us so we called it day. Fav trails were Superstar especially the stuff near the bottom, Flow was ton of fun and World Cup too, Rockstar need some tweaking and Pipedream was really big I would have to spend a day riding the trail to dial it in. SS is the perfect intermidiate mountain you roll off the lift and coast into the blues and take your pick.....good stuff hope the tweaking and building continues....

The actual being closed part didnt bother me just they assured us it would be open the day before is what really pissed me off and then on the day saying it should be open in a bit and then telling us its now closed all day and since they seem to do care about poaching dont have to be such a power hungy bitch about the whole situation telling us their gonna black list us and never let us ride agian? thats seems pretty harsh because we drove all morning to ride a place we where assured that was going to be open they deffintly didnt act professionally and if this was ski season jo lift fixer blow would have been heli'd right to the lift with every a spare part for everything on that lift and it would have been fixed right then and iv deffintly had my share of smart ass people trying to drill into me things that i allready know.

It's apparently a problem that none of the guys up there have ever seen, or heard of before. When it's that complex, it takes more than "a day or two" to resolve things. Then they have to do all of their safety tests and what not.
We can throw you on one of the chairs if you'd like. But if yer not home for dinner, yer momma better be calling the firetruck to save your ass like a stranded cat on the lift.

Oh yea because hiking with our bikes went over so well. People dont usually know exactly what went wrong do they ? everytime your car breaks down do you go buy the part you think is gonna break or do you tell people your gonna go pick them up and wait a few days to figure out what the fuck happend
