heading north down burrard on robson and the bastard saw me but decided to turn left into the alley anyways. Hit just behind the passenger door, left large exspensive dent. Flipped, landed on my feet then my ass, no serious injuries, right wrist feels a bit tweaked, thighs feel hella bruised, difficult to walk, slight headache. Masi mangled... frame might be ok, fork twisted, front tire flat....wheel warped handlebar bent blah blah blah at least I'm ok.

Definately document the accident and start a claim at ICBC. Get a doctor to refer you for chiropractic even if your thinking your OK. Its better to be safe than sorry. You should be able to get a new bike and a settlement. Keep a journal of how you feel each day and any back pain etc... Sometimes it takes a while to figure out what exactly is hurt.

Good luck.

Good advice from Adam, accidents like yours can haunt you for years afterward, and in unexpected ways. Keep notes and get thoroughly checked out.

Glad to hear you're OK.

not at all, I had my head down and was on the drops for extra speed. I saw him and it looked like he was going to wait for me before turning left, next time I looked up I was less than three feet away from the side. No time to do anything.

I'm fine tho, woke up this morning with a lot less pain, usually it's the other way around. All I'm worried about is getting my bike repaired. The thing is I was too rattled at the time to get all his info, stupid I know. I took his phone number but I don't know if it's real...he gave me enough cash on the spot for the bike repairs but my wrist is still bugging me a bit.

don't make me come and get you and take you to the doctors!!! get your ass to one and get checked over just to be on the safe side.

:nono:

Keep your head up when you're in the drops in traffic, and never, ever assume that a driver has seen you or is going to behave in a predictable manner. I find it far easier and safer to modulate my speed, drop back, and cut left to pass around cars that look like they're slowing down for a right turn.

Glad it wasn't worse. Hope you can still make it out to HeyFixie and Midnight Mass this week, even though I'm still pretty much out of commission myself.

That sucks Buk. Glad you're okay, that could have ended much worse.

You didn't get his license plate #? Bum deal, ICBC should be buying you an entirely new bike + compensation for 'pain and suffering' (got hit by a car a few years back and that's how mine got handled).

And while I agree that doctors for the most part are little more than voodoo priests - this would be one time I would suggest you get yourself checked out.

So I went to the hospital and I have a small fracture in my wrist, won't be able to twist wrenches for at least ten days which means I can't work. Tried calling buddy and it was an unavailable number so he may be hanging me out to dry or he just needs to pay into his phone. At least it wasn't a different person lol..

So ya things are looking pretty crappy but it could have been worse...

Have you phoned ICBC or the cops yet? It's worth a try, since a passer-by or witness may have phoned in a report (and might have some identifying info).

well I'll see if i can get a hold of the guy tommorow then I'll call them... the witnesses were pretty freaked out. there was at least a dozen of them and they were amazed i was still standing.

Don't f*ck around, call them ASAP while the incident is still relatively fresh in their minds. The more details/leads (partial/full plate number) you can gather on the vehicle the better.

He hands you some cash, doesn't give you his insurance info, and the number he gives is "unavailable"? Personally, I'd get on the phone immediately to your witnesses, cops and ICBC.

There are witnesses?
Do you have names and numbers for them? If so - call them. NOW. Maybe one of them got the license plate. And the cops, again - NOW.

so i talked to icbc and they seem to think it's gonna be pretty tough for them not to track him down considering the damage i did to his vehicle. (lol!) so that's one silver lining. Police just told me to talk to icbc so i've done everything i can. No info from any witnesses as i drove away in his truck from the scene so they most likely assumed everything was ok... (I'm such a dumbass)

if he gets his truck repaired somehwere shady that doesn't ask questions then he could get away with it, we'll see.

can anyone that knows vehicles make out what make/model of truck that is? I think it was a chevy but i'm not certain..

'kake, i hope icbc will be able to track him down. He owes you now even more than just some cash for fixing the bike.

what a tool, not to be responsible enough to be forthcoming with his insurance info. Makes me so angry....

About the police telling you to just phone ICBC...go have a talk with ICBC and ask them if you need to (or should) file a police report. Double-check with them, just in case filing a police report will have an effect on your claim. (You don't have to tell them that you already talked to the cops.) You need to cover all your bases.

Personally, I would be inclined to go in and file a police report, if for nothing more than to get your statement on record and talk in person with an officer. Remember, this guy appears to have given you a fake contact number and failed to report the incident to ICBC.

Don't let this guy think he can pull this stuff off with impunity.

absolutely file a report with the RCMP . . . . include EVERYTHING in your report : time of day , road conditions , all the witness information you have , chronological order of the entire incident ( from prelude to the guy dropping you off ) , all the little details about the vehicle involved and the owner ( physical description ) .

looks like a late model ford step side pick up , not a lot of those around .

Yup I agree the size of the dent in his fender is ... wow. Ok enough of that, your best bet is to start a journal. Who what where when and write in it daily. You should be compensated for days of work missed and blah blah blah. Personal injury lawyer should be able to do a free consultation, then youll know more about you options. Don't leave it up to ICBC they are not on your side. The police are not going to send out Columbo you have to make your case. Go put up a sign. Need WITNESSES if you saw accident on Blahday at this location contact BUKKAKE ( hmm maybe a different name for this one... ) at such and such and please leave a message. Its a tiny little planet after all and allot of people are just going about their routines when this kind of thing happens. A friend who was in a recent car accident with a street racing moron suggested I tell you to get xrays so you have a base line when the negotiations with ICBC break down. I'm glad your already on top of that. Make sure to write down as much as you can about that hospital visit.

'kak, since you'll need to file a statement anyways, sit down NOW (while the details are still fresh in your mind) and go through the entire chain of events, typing it down.

As Patrolskid suggests, include every detail you can recall, from the circumstances before/after the accident to details about the vehicle and driver.
