Thinking about getting a new lid for free riding, I was thinking the Giro Hex or Xen. Anyone out there know anything about these? Also any suggestions?

If you don't want to spend that much money go to MEC and pick up a Pryme Half Shell if you like half shell styles. There $19 and last years and years.

The money's not a problem, just want some input from ppl rocking a freeride lid. Plus I have a strange shaped head the half shell fits funny.

Uvex Xp100. Lighter, cheaper, made in Germany, comes in other awesome colours too. Fits ALL heads from S-L due to the patented ratchet system. Plus it has bug meshing in the front vents which anyone who's ever had a praying mantis stuck in their helmet will appreciate! Those are some angry little buggers...

I have a Giro Xen. It fits me great (try one on!), it is light, well vented, all that stuff. It sits really securely, more than enough adjustments. The only thing is that I haven't had many other helmets to compare it to. Also, I have yet to test how it deals with impacts so I can only say that I like how it feels.

I tried on the Hex at Snow Covers the other day, they didn't have the Xen in a Medium. The Hex's fit was amazing, like a glove, not a bad price either. I'm guessing the Xen's fit is similar, similar design, just more expensive?

Matt I'm guessing you carry the Uvex at North Shore Bike Shop? Price? Kinda ugly but its always different in person. What other awesome colours?

Thanx, Mike.

$150. There's an urban camo and a black with orange splatter as well as the silver pictured. I agree about it looking ugly in that pic. It's a bad pic...

I thought you said it was cheaper. The Hex is like $100 and pretty sure the Xen was $135. $150 is more than $135 or $100 lol

Xen all the way!

Crashed it and I came out fine... Sort of. Nice and cool and looks great.

From looking at the Fox, it looks about the same as the Xen or Hex. Thats just my opinion though, it might feel completely different.

I would suggest you look at a protec type skate helmet. They last forever and you never have to worry about crushing them or ripping off the visor. I find that the gyro and most other helmets constructed using the inmold foam core/hard plastic outside are nice and light and airy but nor durable enough for the long term. I replace my protec every couple of years but never worry about it getting sat on or crushed it. Is pretty much bullet proof and pretty comfy too! just my 2 cents

I rock a Xen, when not using the fullface.
Good airflow, and good rear coverage.

Well if the Xen fits well...it is a great little helmet.

If you buy last years colours then the price gets a lot cheaper, I've seen them on sale at the REI just across the boarder for $60 or so, plus those coupons and web sales...

As always try before you buy, I tried a number of makes first, and for me the Xen just fit the best at the time. Beside "she who must be obeyed" bought it for me. ;)

I tried on the fox flux. It is going to be my next helmet, felt so nice, fairly light, good airflow, fit my head good, snug in all the right places. I also am running a pro-tec ace withthe visor on it, an ok helmet, but I wouldnt be buying another one for riding, look too much like toad from mario bros and I dont think it offers that good of protection from a safety standards stand point

I just got a Xen, fits great and way more comfy than the skate helmet i was using.

If you want to buy online I would check ebay and use giros links of where to buy online and check out older modles. They have limited models and colors but good prices.
