Howdy all - I'm heading to whistler for the first time (riding) from NZ in a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on tyre choice?

At home (wellington, NZ) I'm running Tioga White Tigers front and back, but I'm wondering if there is a better choice that I could make for local conditions.

We'll also be spending a week in Vancouver afterwards, if there is a tyre that is (kinda) suited to both whistler and the shore.

Tar,

Jono

ps: whilst in the area, is there anything else that we absolutely must do? A friend has suggested disneyland in squamish, so I'm looking at options for how we could get up there...

For the tire question, Maxxis High Rollers work pretty well for me at whistler, o Minion Dh is another good choice.

The upper reaches of Disneyland are almost certainly under at least four metres of snow.

As for tyres, I am partial to Minions. Work well in the greasy woods of the North Shore and can still rip it up on the smoother trails.

minions, nevegals.... You want sticky rubber for the shore though.

Yep, I'd have to go with Minions too. They won't let you down. Nevegals are also fantastic. You can't go wrong with either. I find High Rollers slide around a lot.

It's my understanding the new batch of Wilderness Trail Bike (WTB) tires were designed with input from the Whistler Bike Park. Might be worth giving them a shot.

Highrollers and/or Minions fare well on "regular" trail (whatever that is) but I prefer Nevegals on the wood/rocks and the techy-rooty steep stuff. I'm pretty pinner so I can get away with running a 2.35 rear and a 2.5 front. Otherwise, I'd run a 2.5 rear if I were a little larger.

Big Earls have been brilliant if you need to run one tire
in the park and the valley trails of the Sea to Sky all seasons.

I only use them in the front though. Highrollers or Minion DH front
in the back.

DH ones, not the single plys.

2.5 have shown the best and only about 50CDN.

I have just recently started running Minion DHF front and rear and am really happy with that setup.

I run Michelin C16 on my front and rear wheel.... that works for me much better than minions.

Thanks for the advice guys n' girls. Went down to the shop today and ordered to 2.5" nevegals stick-e's.

I would consider the minions, but I've got an irrational thing about maxxis as every grom and his emo girlfriend plaster the world with maxxis stickers :) Besides, if the nevegals don't work I can always get a minion when over there.

I'm so looking forward to it. My only apprehension now is that it's gonna be bigger than I've been riding here in Welly...ah well - that's what body armour is for...
