No I wasn't, it just looks faster when you're riding a bike like that! Although if my chain didn't fall off twice and I did'nt crash my time would've been close to that of when I was riding the Demo 9.

I like the pictures.
The course was good and had a lot of awesome turns. minus the pedaling sections at the top and finish. The last pedaling section is pretty much un-avoidable though. Maybe if the course started in the other direction down the hill into those good switchback berms it would have shortened it and made it funner.
Overall it was a good course for such a small hill. I just thought I would share my opinion.

i never realized there were so many DH racer princesses out there.. It has a chain and pedals for a reason.. I thought the course was awesome, pretty easy, with lots of time to be made up/lost on the flats, if only I could corner better. Next year sounds like it'll be even better.

Suck it up! Would you rather have one less venue? We built this course for people to have a place to race and have fun.... and mostly for the development of new blood to the sport. It was not built for Elite riders. My favourite courses are steep fall line stuff that you'd question your sanity for riding it. That's not the BC Cup anymore.
And...
I have 4 little kids and my free time is worth a lot. So what do I do? Go build a course for people to race on. None of us who organized the event even ride bikes anymore (that race was my first ride in almost a year).
Maybe you should try it next year.
;)
Thanks to all the guys and gals who supported the cause.

Come out and show us how its done.
Edit: The UCI allows for upwards of 5% uphill, we had probably 1% or less. It took Luke to go 1.6kms in 3 minutes. I'd say that's pretty quick.

the 2 runs was a really good idea. I was talking to Tom Rose from Australia who was saying they had 2 runs back in Aus and it was better because you could pin it and not worry so much about crashing.

So big question is... where was the cash purse for the pros with entry being same price as a CC and first place getting a CKD dvd.....
Wayne P
06-12-2007, 09:24 PM
The cash purse was spent on getting you guys up the hill and running a smooth event. How do you think those shuttles were paid for? What about the first aid attendants? The timing guys? Do you have half a clue?
Seriously though, BC Cups aren't about paying out to the pros anymore, its about developing new racers into the sport. If anything, the focus was to be "paying out" it would be to beginners, in my opinion.
By the way, Leclerc gave us those vids.
Why did you not whine to our faces?

Looks like a fun race, but i am suprised more people didn't opt to race on a shorter travel rig or maybe a rear semi-slick. Looks smooth enough that you might be able to get away with it. I could be wrong though.
sgarstin
06-17-2007, 07:24 PM
i rode with a semi slick. not many people have a short travel dh bike, and if they do they probably are freeride huckers who dont race.
Wayne P
06-17-2007, 11:33 PM
Small bikes weren't really that much of an advantage, maybe a second or two at the line. If you were fit, a big bike would be quick.
Next year you won't recognize the course with all the changes we're planning. Might not even be the same trail.
