Hooked up with Geoff Pendrell and George from Van Isle and cracked off an Okanagan classic that I hadn't hit yet.

McDougall Rim trail.

Smoke that's an awesome ride =

The Backroads Mapbook shows a trail that's a big circuit in that area. Let me give you a heads up - its a frikking lie. The loops described in the Mapbook peters out around Mt Swite.

http://www.leelau.net/2005/mcdougallrim210505/mcdougallrim210505.htm

96.3km of riding; 2060m of climbing and 6 hours and 15 minutes of riding time with average speed of 15.7 km/h - that's a lot of lost on logging roads. Just to make it clear - I did eventually find the singletrack trail and ride that and it was totally worth it like you described in the blog

Funny....we rode about 22 km in a tad under 3 hours.

Serves you right for believing in that book. Hard to find good resources these days....

Well I had a whole day to kill and wanted to explore. Was just pissed off that it was so out of this world wrong. There's an assload of roads and small bush roads there. I almost descended back to the lake using the roads north of the Rim.

More and more that's becoming my kind of ride - or at least something I want to do more of again. Sedona last month was a revelation.

Two Cypress rides in the past week with no shuttling - and I loved it even on my D7. As James often says 'the old school is a good school.'

Did it this past weekend, and really enjoyed it. Did something similar to Lee's trip, minus 45km. :)

Thanks for the directions and the map, Smoke.

Glad you had a good time there. You shoulda dropped by for some post ride coolies though.

I'll be doing that one and the Smith Creek one in the fall, unless we manage to get a cool day or two in August.

It was a bit of a crazy day / weekend. Arrived Friday night, visited with the family. Up early Saturday, rode from the back side of Knox Mtn. over to McDougall, did the trail, then back up Knox, showered, quick visit with my niece, then to Vernon for a housewarming.

Maybe later this summer, though. Thanks for the invite.

I can see the climb being dusty and a scorcher in the middle of the summer.
