Ya, I know, but one of the rules on the BB is that the only way to get directions to a place, whether it be trails or DJ's is over MSN or PM, so that the whole world doesn't know.

I understand that it's public and "sanctioned" as well.

dude there's directions on pinkbike, (my friend found them after i made the thread)

if its public ppl have a right to know where it is, trying to hide it is ridiculous

That's bullshit. Provide a link to that "rule"?

Uh ... If you think about the reason for that unwritten "rule" or "code of ethics" or whatever you want to call it ... it's meant to keep people off trails that are too tough for them, somewhat limiting the damage to the trail and risk to the rider. The idea is, when you're ready for a trail, someone you ride with will take you there.

To apply the "no directions" ethos to a legal, sanctioned dirt jump park (or trail) is ridiculous. The whole idea of legalizing a jump park is to stop the building of illegal jumps. If nobody tells where the legal jumps are, how does the demand for illegal jumps get reduced?

Rules are no substitute for common sense.

Actually it's not bullshit at all. It just shows you that Diggs is old school and has been around here since the beginning. We have always said that this site would not welcome trail directions - on the front page or the bb.

While it makes sense to apply that rule for almost every dirt jump spot in BC, Myrtle is an exception.

That being said the code still applies for trails that are sanctioned. Take a rider there but don't tell them how to get there.

Obviously there would be some exceptions to this guideline as well. If you see some tourists climbing up Grouse and they want to know where the 'easy' trails are it would make good sense to help them out.

Diggs is just keeping the code alive - thanks for that.

Isn't part of the reason not to post directions (for sanctioned OR unsanctioned spots) to prevent over-use?

I mean - without directions maybe you''ll go there and there will be 10 people using the trail.
With directions, there may be 100 people there. too many people = too crowded, = too much wear = less fun for YOU.

Besides, for virtually ANYTHING or any Trail - if you are really serious about riding it - some concentrated sleuthing with that little PC you're sitting at should provide an answer. I got into this sport myself, without being dragged in by friends, so ALL the trails I've ridden were found online.

Overuse, Schmoveruse ... the Myrtle jumps are a public park and should be built for the load. That's the point of a PUBLIC facility.

By comparison, I'd rather direct 100 riders to Ned's than have that same 100 noobs dragging their back tires down whatever other trails they happen to find by accident.

The point being that those 100 riders are going to go out and hit the trails no matter what, so let's point them to where they can do the least damage or at least focus the damage so we can minimize where we have to do constant repairs.

What I find cool is if you meet up with someone, they may show you a trail, even if they are a complete stranger. That's how I found all my trails. Peeps showing me and stuff, the way trails should be found. But it pays to poke around a bit, too when you're in the bush ;)

Terms of Use and Rules for the NSMB Bulletin Boards

Rule number 1 - Respect!

Treat all members with respect on these boards. It doesn't matter if they are new members, moderators or your little brother - they all deserve respect. This is the rule we will be most sensitive to.

No bashing or flaming of competing sites, bike shops, products or individuals. You can tell us what's up but don't trash whoever it is you are having a problem with.

Use the message board as a message board and not as a chat. Use the smilies feature to add to a message not as a reply to what someone else has said. If you have something to say please share it with us, if you don't there is no need to post.

No profanity or obscene language.

You are certainly allowed to disagree but do not flame each other because you disagree about the size of a drop or the best fork. Discuss things maturely and refer to rule one.

Please use the correct board for the post you are making. If you have a question about gear put it on the gear board, if you are organizing a ride use the Ride Planning board. And please tell us about it afterwards.

The last rule is; welcome new members warmly. We shut the board down because new members were not made to feel welcome on our site. That is unacceptable to us.

If you follow the rules these boards will be much better than they have in the past. If you do not follow our rules your account will be removed and you will not be invited back.

Thank you for using our Bulletin Board system,

Cam@nsmb.com

It doesn't say in the rules of the BB that trail directions are not allowed.

Why wouldn't you want to proper directions to known, publicized trails to be posted? Would it not be better for someone to find the trail they are looking for rather than find the wrong trail and end up going down something potentially detrimental? Also, parks such as Myrtle as public parks, no just trails on a mountain.

I think on the old BB it had rules about posting trails when you signed up, as well as the FAQ page. And I got in shit once (as the original undystain) for posting directions to a spot :)

Speaking of couch, where is the ol bugger?:(
