I'm looking to lighten up my all mountain 6&6 bike, and my current focus is the wheelset. Here's what I've thought up so far:

Front

Hadley Stnd disc front hub 194g
DT Swiss XR 4.2D Disc Rim 400g
DT Swiss DT Competition - Silver spokes 185g
DT Swiss Pro Loc Nipples - Black Alloy 10g
789g total

Rear

Hadley 72 Point Engagement QR Disc Rear Hub 355g
DT Swiss XR 4.2D Disc Rim 400g
DT Swiss DT Competition - Silver spokes 185g
DT Swiss Pro Loc Nipples - Black Alloy 10g
950g total

Any thoughts on weaknesses or what might be a better bet? I'm about 195 lbs. geared up and would want to be able to ride technical Fromme-type trails on these wheels as well as the odd XC ride (not race).

thats more scratch then I've got to throw around. I got a lot of miles out of a set of mavic F219's/deore used in the same application. curently lacing up a singletrack to a Ringle 135mm X 12mm rear. figure I can toast a hoop every year for the next half a dozen years at the same cost as a DT swiss setup.

I'm pinner by the way. 145 - 155 pounds.

You're probably aware of this already, but here's a comparison of spoke weights:

You might be able to get away with DT Super Comps or DT Revos (or the Wheelsmith equivalent) on the front. The Wheelsmith equivalent (DB14) for DT Comps is also a bit lighter and the quality is good.

Don't forget to use reinforced strapping tape instead of rim tape for the full weight weenie approach.

...or Velocity Veloplugs.

PITA to install, but they sure make swapping out broken spokes easier.

yes expensive. i never would have purchased them but they came with my bike.

i have over 300 rides on them, (not exagerating). NS mostly plus SSC, whistler super DH, bear mountain DH, and everywhere in between.

i have never even had to tension the spokes. these puppies are nuclear!
