From Cervelo,
Glutton for Punishment” is an upcoming TV show with a cycling twist. The star of the show is Bob Blumer, a sort of renaissance man who was the manager for singer/songwriter Jane Sibery but later morphed into a chef and cooking show luminary. His previous show on the Food Network was "Surreal Gourmet", which featured a toaster-mobile. You have to watch the show to understand. Now he is back with Glutton for Punishment.
One episode, "Alpine Cyclist", has Bob trying to ride a full Tour de France stage route and if he finishes, he gets to eat a gourmet feast that equals the total calories he burned during the ride. He has coaching help from Team CSC rider Christian VandeVelde who gets to participate in the feast if it all works out.
Bob only has four days to get ready to ride the full stage. Luckily, Bob is a cycling junkie. He may not put in the miles on a consistent basis, but when he can, he does get out on his bike in California where he lives.
This show is actually pretty funny, as are the other episodes in the series, where he spends four days trying to get ready for some food related event on the fifth day. Christian is particularly good in this episode coaching Bob up L'Alpe d'Huez.
"Glutton for Punishment" is available on Food Network Canada and on the Fine Living Network in the US.
In Canada you can catch the Alpine Cyclist episode on May 16th at 10 PM EST.
In the US it will be on Fine Living Network on May 18th at 9:30 PM EST.

Episode 8 : Tour de France
Cycling is Bob’s second favorite activity after eating. And the two actually go very well together - a high energy bike ride can burn up to 1000 calories an hour, making an intense bike trip a perfect complement to the excesses of a gourmet traveler. Inspired by the greatest cycling event in the world, the Tour de France, we’ve designed a bike trip/food adventure that will test Bob’s stamina and indulge his love of rich sauces and stinky French cheese. His challenge is to train with a veteran of the Tour de France and attempt to conquer one of the most mythical and challenging sections of the Tour – the high altitude ‘cols’ of the Alps culminating in the arduous and legendary pinnacle of Alpe d’Huez: eight vertiginous miles climbing 5839 feet through 21 painful hairpin turns. His reward? A nonstop, guilt-free gourmet feast of artisan breads, cheeses, sausages, raclettes and fondues from the Alpine region.
