Recently sold my old Norco Launch 2002 to a buddy and it looks like that old rear caliper is shot, one of the pins has broken off.
We are probably going to replace it with a cheap Hayes nine, and I was just wondering if the same mounting bracket will still work. The brakes on it right now are also hayes. I can't remeber the model name, but that are stock and were below the Hayes Mags in 2002.
Also, what does a Hayes 9 rear brake run in BC. I am having a tough time tracking one down here.

yes it should fit... why don't you just walk down to your LBS and ask how much a hayes 9 is?

Yep, you can use the same adapter and the the same rotor.
However, if nothing else is wrong with the brake then replacing the piston is probably still the cheapest option. A new piston is about $15 and labour to install it should run you $30-40. Unless something else is wrong with the brake I'd probably do that.
If you're lucky you might be able to find an OEM take off HFX-9 for $100 or so. Maybe a little less if you don't need the rotor or adapter.

Actually phoned the entire city, but they are asking more than I though it should be so I thought I might follow up in another city.

Geologyboy,
If you are looking for Hayes 9s, you only need to go as far as the used
section. Many people are selling brand new 9s for very reasonable prices.

Hope this helps,

Like Jeff M said, replace the piston. You can do it yourself for free though, its pretty easy, you just need a compressor to pop out the piston. Parts should be redily available. If not, get a nine, the brackets and rotor will work as "hayes is hayes"

There are lots for sale 'cause they suck!
Replace the piston, or buy the nines and use the mag lever.

Cheers, thanks everyone. I was trying to buy used, but pickings were slimmer in Alberta. He ended up putting a Juicy 5 on, which wasn't too bad since the old rotor was bent to hell anyway.
I told him about replacing the piston, but he went this route instead.
