im sure this question has been asked before but i did a quik search and couldn't find any threads about it.
best rear shock? i just blew my DHX 5 and instead of getting it re built i can get a new one for super cheep i just want to know which one would be best?
is the REVOX really worth it? or should i just go for another DHX 5 maybe a swinger 6??

mtbr.com, some of the reviews seem like they belong on pinkbike but the majority are good.

I always check there before buying most products.

Looking at the revox reviews it seems like a real high end shock. If your into downhill/racing I could see it being worth it.

revox is a shock, but what you said still applies.

do some research first. this topic has been discussed on the boards many times before.

What about the new Cane Creek shock? 4 adjustments (H/L for compression stroke and H/L for rebound). Expensive though so few if anyone has one.

The best? If you've got the dough, get a Pushed DHX 5.0 w/ ti spring. Will run you like $800USD once everything's done, but mine performs ridiculously well. Can't imagine another one working any better.

Is yours blown? I doubt you know since you're still trying to figure out where to send it.

Or did you just let it get low on air and the boost valve needs to be bled.

Why don't you wait and see what's wrong with yours before you jump to conclusions.

well i like to keep it at 80 psi, and all of the sudden in goes dead, then i check the air and it was at 0 so i walked it home pumped it up and it was fine for another day. but now its dead again. i think it has a leak in the seal. so instead of waiting 2 weeks (and missing opening of whistler) i am gunna buy a new one (i get great deals) and send the old one in for a re build then sell it

if you're nice to the mechanics at your shop, OGC should be able to turn your shock around in 1 week, not two.

well I would go for a marzochi rocco if you have to get one RIGHT away... if not get the Rock Shock rear shock for 08... those look sick!

Best rear shock for DH/freeriding?

You'll have it within a couple days, and you will never have to worry about a broken shock ever again.

End of discussion.

nothing else on the market will touch the Cane Creek Double Barrel for performance and adjustability

the Double Barrel uses a completely different type of internal layout to all other shocks (which use variations of the De Carbon layout)

i know 2 people riding Double Barrel and it feels awesome, not cheap at GBP£650 with Ti spring (Fox DHX 5 is GBP£350 with steel spring) but according to both my buddies, its transformed their bikes over the Fox shock

the main issue i've seen with DHX is inconsistency of build in the factory. you can take 10 different DHX 5.0 shocks off the shelf, and dyno test them together, each will give a different performance

I'd look at getting your DHX rebuilt by an experienced tuning shop (we have Mojo and TF Tuned here in the UK :) )

maybe just go for the DHX 5 again because I know you blew yours... but overall they are a very trustworthy shock

OGC has an incredible turnaround time and are local. Why would you want to spend all that money on a new shock when you can get it so easily fixed and potentially under warranty?

well because its like 200$ to get it rebuilt, i can buy a whole new one for a little above 200

Is it not under warranty? Also, can you get a shock that's on the same level as the DHX5, and all the mounting hardware for 200?

yup, i get great deals on parts, around 70% off.
i don't know if its still under warranty

Have you had it less than a year? Are you the original owner? It seems like you are jumping the gun a little when you haven't even looked into servicing the shock.

ogc will rebuild it to be better than a new one.

The double barrel is supposed to be the best shock out there, however it is rare and expensive. I am yet to try one but can't wait to. I do know that it costs more trade than a DHX5 retails at, so its quite an investment...

DHX5 is hardly a bad shock though, and you can always rip out the platform and have it turned into a big 'ol high volume, custom valved vanilla RC = lurvely

asking about which shock is the best really depends on what type of riding you are doing, what type of rider you are, and what bike the shock will go on.

Without going into much detail, and just speaking in generals...I had an avalanche and LOVED it. I thought there was none better until I got my hands on a double barrel. It takes time to get it dialed just right but once it is setup...woooo does it perform! As stated above, they are NOT cheap..but for the same price for an avy, you can have a double barrel.

Keep in mind, you will not have it (most likely anyways) in time for whistler to start. The boys at cane creek get all the info on you (size, style, bike it's going on, etc) and they take "blank" shocks and tune it with what they think is a great starting point to ride...you are then responsible to get it fine tuned.

I can tell you this much...the next bike I get will have another double barrel on it.

No offence to the original poster, but judging from his posts, a Cane Creek DB would not be an ideal shock for him. Too many adjustments, too much to mess with.

It's way easier to make a shock feel like absolute shite than it is to tune it right.

I'm pretty sure he is not the orig owner. Given that he was complaining about the flappy-ness of his xo a little while ago (!), then it wouldnt be a stretch to assume the previous owner also gave the shock a fair beatdown too.

As I said before, do your homework, with regards to ogc, and new shocks.
