has anyone here made the jump? I'm thinking about adding a couple 5D's to my bag. Thoughts and opinions about this camera wanted(if you own a 5D)

the 5d has still arguably one of the best sensors Canon produce. The high-iso performance is stunning.
Its a fast camera to sjppt with, but the low-sync speed is a bit of a let down.
I don't own one, but i've used one as an assistant at weddings.

I've heard of a better colour gamut and better focusing because of the "hidden" focus points. Personally If you were shooting weddings, I'd do it, but would avoid it if you use alot of wide angles.

wait, avoid going full frame? Because of a wide angle? lmfao
worst argument ever.
the 5d is sick, do it..

The only time the Vignetting problem presents itself is with Wide angles with large apertures, It's the exact same with a film camera. It's par for the course. Without shooting full-frame you can never truly appreciate great lenses. The quality difference between a Pro-lens and a consumer Lens is gigantic on a full-frame. Totally worth it, Though you may want to wait until the 5dmkII comes out, It's just a here say ATM but may be worth wait a couple months.

if u are serious about weddings 5d is great, faithless do some research, the point of full frame is so u can have a true wide angle lense, and better DOF. if u want great glass u got to pay, cz21mm best there is for wide angle. at 7000us I would hope so too. The 5d is great, iso is amazing and the files just seem to pop. U will be happy with the new camera for sure.

the grip for the 5d is just a screw-add on. I usually hate those, as they really don't "work" for the camera.
but damn, the 5d's vertical grip is good!
I'm really Jealous!
Did you go Canon 24-70 L or Sigma?

The Vignetting has a lot more to do with the lens than the camera homie. All you have to do is stop down a step or two and voila. Same as shooting a film camera. Not to mention that there is a thousand programs out there specifically for removing vignetting. Guess what? The 1DSmkII has the same "Problem" Par for the course.

I would, but the same type of shot at 3200 on my D200 would look like a fucking mosaic compared to that.

yeah it was a bit of a hit on the old savings! However, I already got a wedding booked out of it after posting some of the new photos on myspace so I'm almost halfway there :)
Mosty because the MK2 would be total overkill for what i need. I don't need burst speed or that heavy/protected of a camera. The files on the 5D will print to sizes that most brides will probably never even consider and the 5D files are really fantastic. It's a shame to make these files smaller for the nette- they are just beautiful full size.

why buy two? i don't get it. all i can think is that you don't have the time to change lenses and you think carrying two cameras around is a sensible solution.

Yeah, it's not like a camera body could break while shooting a wedding or anything. The wedding gods with save the camera, and protect it from harm. There will never again be the need for a second, back up, body! Wedding photographers rejoice!

i swear that lens lies about shutter speeds... i mean at 1.2 i've shot at like 1/60th in almost pitch black. I bet it has a mini flash and it doesn't tell you or something.
I reckon a nice sports combo would be the 1d mkIII with iso6400 and the 1.3crop on the 85/1.2!

851.2 not that great for sports, as it focuses slow, the 85 1.8 is better for sports in that sense. The 85 1.2 is amazing for weddings and portraits.

i've never tried it, but I would think with that DOF you are gonna have a hard time shooting anything that's moving. It's hard enough at 1.4/1.8. One helluve fast servo focus i guess. i don't know. never tried it.

The Premier of British Columbia. It was part of a promotional campaign for the Vancouver Giants and the upcoming Memorial Cup.
the 85 1.2 is suuuper slow to focus. your subject has to be still if you are shooting wide open

thats a non - issue, something people with too much time to spare just happened to make into a big issue recently
no one really complained about it over the past 60 years, its not something you really notice unless you look for it.

It's a bit diffrent for digital vs film. I'm not complaining though, Personally I would choose a 5d for weddings, as opposed to a 20d. But If I were to shoot in a studio, id need something with a fast shutter sync such as a 30d or a 1dmkII

There would be very little difference in the studio between 1/200 and 1/250 when using flashes. You'll drop your shutter speed for Apperture to get DOF. Shooting sports with flash I can see there being a difference.
Derek, I was just curious. Glad you like the camera, it's definitly putting out great shots. I envy the low light ISO ability. The mkII isn't the worlds least noisy camera at 800+ ISO, but the mashine gun like sound when I am fireing 8.5 FPS is pretty cool. Makes people stare...

Changing lenses when stuff is happening every second is a real drag :) The 20D's are my backups now. I'm thinking about selling the 20D's and just buying one more 5D. I'm having a hard time doing it though, because they are great cameras, and I probably won't get out of them what they are worth...

When you look at the numbering system on your cards, What are the folders labeled? (121 = 12100)

not true, on a non 1 series body, u can not tell enless u send it to canon. As soon as u reformate the card it starts again. On one series bodies u can use cancount.

not true, on a non 1 series body, u can not tell unless u send it to canon. As soon as u re-format the card it starts again. On one series bodies u can use can count.I don't need to know 'to the frame' how many shots have been taken, Ball park is good. And FYI the numbering doesn't reset every time you format the card, it resets when you enter into the menu and tell the camera's numbering system to reset. Unless he has specifically used that command, while the numbering may not be accurate to the frame, It can give you a ball park figure of how many actuations are on the shutter
