So, I'm headed up to Vancouver this weekend, and my girl is coming with. I'm recovering from a broken collar bone, and she is fairly new to biking. I want to ride somewhere that is a good place for her to learn shore style riding. With this in mind, I need your help with some guidance. I wanted to go to Fromme since I have never been, but stay on some easier trails (unless you can suggest a better learning ground near Vancouver). What trails should we ride? I got a map from http://www.nsmba.bc.ca/cms/pdf/MapOfFromme.pdf, but I need to know a good route for a day of riding. Remember, she is new to biking, and can ride some technical terrain (wide ladder bridges, small logs, stuff like that), but not much more. Thanks for your help in advance. :D

I'd start by climbing up to 7th Secret. Take that trail down and then head down to Pipeline when you hit the fire road again. See how your feeling after that.

7th to pipeline is a great ride but before climbing all the way up, I would suggest testing out a couple of the lower trails to gauge your skill level before doing the hour + climb to 7th.
Start with Natural High, it's low on the mountain and pretty tame with regards to gnarl & grade. If N.H. is too difficult then you can try King of the Shore. If N.H. is within your comfort zone but you don't want to get any more difficult you could also play around on Bobsled/Floppybunny/Griffin, they're all low on the mountain have the same skill requirements. If N.H. is to easy or you're ready for a bit of a challenge then i'd say start climbing for 7th.
Alternative places to ride would be, (in order of difficulty first being easiest)
-UBC endownment lands; flat gravel paths
-the South Surrey Bike park; flat, but lots of nice woodwork that's low to the ground low consequence if you fall off. There is a DJ park as well. Note that that the wood work here is death in wet weather as it's ultra slippery.
-the Delta water shed; similar to the South Surrey Bike park but with a bit more elevation change. IMHO the structures are not as well built and require a bit more skill to ride. It's a bit of a maze to find to find the good stuff, so have some patience.
-Burnaby mountain/SFU; A step up from the Shed, much steeper and slightly more technical.
-Fromme/Seymour

Oh just so you know, the map you are looking at is accurate for trail locations, but not so much for the red/black/blue/green ratings. Much of the mountain and the trail conditions have changed since it was published. For example Natural High is rated as a Black, while it does have black options, over all it's easier than pipeline which is rated black/blue. Also the color rating is all kind of relative to the location, so a black in your neck of the woods could be a great deal easier (or harder) than one here.

if she really is "fairly new to biking," i think those trails will just frustrate her.
Ducati's suggestions sound perfect

...Why is Pipeline blue and Oilcan black??? :???:
Pipeline is a sweet trail but it definitely has lots of pretty technical/steepish sections, especially some of the corners. I would say it's about the same difficulty as 7th secret which is rated black...somewhat inconsistent...

like Rob said, LOC was rebuilt last year and is less fall-line now than it used to be, and now it doesn't have any bridges on it. It's waay easier than it used to be.

Rob, a perfect answer for this type of Fromme specific question. You should save it and use for all future querries.
