For a vintage bike, I would try Ebay, if you can deal with the hassles it involves.
Perhaps the Cycling BC site, but the bikes on there tend to be newer/higher end. However, they've moved to a new site and the ads are now moderated, with the result that it seems slow to update (last ad was posted on April 4.)
http://www.cyclingbc.net/itoolkit.asp?pg=ROAD_CLASSIFIEDS
For the Cycling BC site, you might want to market your bike as a "rain bike." Hence, posting it in late fall might make more sense.
Not sure about Craigslist, seems oriented more toward local (same city) buyers.

Best place is in a dark damp basement were no one can see you.

Another possibility might be the RoadBikeReview classifieds. They have a very active retro/vintage board, so your bike might arouse some interest.
Might as well post the specs up, maybe someone here will be interested.

Should be pretty easy to home in on a rough price (using Ebay "completed listings" search) if you know the frame model and tubeset.
STI or downtube shifters? To be honest, I would rather you sold it on RBR or Ebay, rather than Craigslist.
Better chance that it won't end up as a fixed gear/single speed ridden by someone with died red-black hair and multiple nipple/nose piercings on the streets of Vancouver. Then dumped in a few years when accessorized wheelbarrows become "all the rage." Know what I mean? Or just keep it and use it as a permanent trainer or rain bike. Some things are just not worth selling...

It has the rocky mtn stickers on it from when they rebadged the vitus frame ,its got the old indexed downtube shifters ,the doc I got it from told me it was 2200 new probably close to 20years ago and he only rode it once a year
I got 5 bikes ,I should get rid of 1 maybe 2 for reasons of space, also its TOO BIG,when it raind down there its snowing up here ... you can't ride at least 5 months of the year here

Interesting. I would prominently market it as a Rocky Mountain badged Vitus frame, make sure you say "Vintage" to reach the right buyers.
Try and dig up as much info you can about the frame, you might be able to find some additional info/frame dimensions and pics on Waybackmachine. I recommend Ebay.
Send it to Bike Barn in Penticton on consignment.

Are they like all the North Shore fatties with McMadones and Livestrong bracelets? The same poseur bikes that get dumped in less than a season when Squiddy Condoflippington realizes that cycling actually involves getting out of the Range Rover? Know what I mean?
I hate how any kid who sees a fixie and decides "Hey, that looks fun, I should get into cycling!" is instantly derided as a "posengeur" by the Immortal Class, and stereotyped by the Lycra set. "Posengeurs" took home 5 spots out of the top 10 in Saturday's alleycat. Some of those wheelbarrow jockeys, as you so kindly labelled them, are into a little thing called "progression." A lot of them are into a little thing called "track racing."
Fashionable bicycles and fixed-gear/messenger culture are awesome, and get people riding, which is what this is all about. Even better, come out to a HeyFixie or Midnight Mass ride, and you'll probably learn a thing or two about stepping lively - and safely - through the streets. You might even make some new friends with piercings and dyed hair. (NB: I personally lack piercings, dyed hair, tattoos, and a fixed-gear bicycle). :)
Please do sell that Vitus on eBay or RBR, though. I don't want any of my friends or co-workers hurting themselves on it when the fork fails.

Holy Ranting, seriously get a life!
Take your Black Ace card out of the spokes, and ride in the daylight, so motorist can see you!
Or better yet, ride in the Dark! on bikes with no brakes, so drunken Motorists, that just stumbled out of the bar, can run your sorry ass over.=/

My bike gets far too dirty to risk ruining any of Kati-J's various sexy-ass spoke cards. My old Midnight Mass card is a delaminated and gooey mess, and I'm saving my black ace for my new wheelset. I also run brakes. And up to eight lights if I'm feeling frisky. :)
That said, dodging drunks is par for the course, but I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who wishes harm on fellow cyclists.

Amazing how someone on a cycling message board could actually hope for kids having fun on bikes to get hit by cars.
Even more amazing is Ninja's 31-year-old rank grommetry. I thought he was fucking twelve.
What is the world coming to? People using bicycles as their main form of transportation?!?! Don't these people know that bikes are toys?

Isn't there a critical mass somewhere that you should be in.
I'm a rider, commuter and a driver. People like your groups, give riders a bad rep. Which I have zero love for.
So from now on I'm going to be on your case.

Critical Mass aside, I assume that you've never been on a Midnight Mass or HeyFixie! ride. Traffic doesn't get blocked, and new riders have a safe and positive environment in which to learn how to ride safely and with confidence. That gives riders a bad rep?
If you want to get on my case, ( ) you can find me at either of those rides, or on the Riley Park vintage ride. Or at Critical Mass. Or drinking coffee in front of 885 West Georgia. Or volunteering at the Burnaby Velodrome 3-day this weekend. I'll be the guy on the bagged and rusty black Olmo.

As with Ninja, I feel genuinely sorry for those who look down upon the less fortunate; although the squeegee nitwit darting in and out between cars at Georgia and Thurlow is going to end up getting some cyclist hurt.

Nothing like logging off for a few days and coming back to a good steaming pile of bile. I suppose one rant deserves another, but you missed my point completely. I make fun of EVERYONE, including myself whenever possible. You don't think I find the concept of uber-swank roadies funny? Have you been reading ANY of my posts?
Interesting that you should bring up the "p" (poseur) word, because I sure as hell didn't. Stopped using that word with any regularity around high school.
You might even make some new friends with piercings and dyed hair.
Like when I was in high school? Did it ever occur to you that I might have been making fun of myself (albeit circa early '80s)?

This comment completely lacks class. At least get your target right and aim it at the right person. Leave XXXer and his bike OUT OF THIS. You have zero supporting evidence to make a statement like that.
Show some class, mate.

Does your funky black Ulmo reinforce your oh-so-chic east van me-against-the-machine credentials or do you just need such a strong bike to help you support that massive chip on your shoulder?

I had a pink Vitus for a couple years, super wet-noodle flexy. I think I bought it for $500 in about 1998, and sold it for $350-400 in 2001.

My apologies with respect to the vitriol. There's been some friction between the messenger and fixed-gear communities with respect to the "p-word," and the race on the 28th was an absolute blast that went a long way towards promoting unity amongst riders. The same goes for the good folks at the Burnaby Velodrome, who have welcomed the kids with the rolled-up jeans with open arms and cold beer. To come back after that and perceive that one of this board's better posters was singling out those kids as somehow not worthy of a good vintage bike struck a nerve, and I reacted with negative roadie stereotypes.
I stand by my comments about the Vitus, though. There's a difference between a road bike and a street bike, and I don't think that an older bonded aluminum frame is appropriate for a bike that would be destined to see a fair amount of abuse. Hell, a pierced-and-tattooed girl that I ride with just picked up a Vitus for her boyfriend, and it makes for him a fine and quite pretty tourer. :)

It's my first road bike. I don't know how strong it is or even what it's made out of (mystery Reynolds and Columbus blend, which is pretty curious for an Italian bike), but it seems to have stood up well to commuting, messengering, alleycatting, Main St. cafe posing, and the occasional skate spot. It's far too dirty and rusty to ever be considered funky, but it's a well-enough designed-and-built frame.
I keep my shoulders fairly well brushed off, in any event. Especially towards those who feel that cycling forums are the appropriate venue for denigrating people of different socioeconomic status, or wishing harm on fellow riders.
I didnt think you could back pedal on a fixie
Just kidding

We can agree to disagree, but you suggested that his fork would fail, not the frame.
Clearly, there are enough older Vitus bikes around to indicate that these bikes do not implode. (A Google search of "Vitus" "fork" "failure" pretty much brings up nothing except some random anecdotes.) Furthermore, it's clear from XXXer's posts that the bike has not been abused.
I would think that many of the used bikes being sold on Craiglist (often at outrageous prices) for FG/SS conversion are more suspect in terms of the possibility of failure.
And that's all I have to say about the bike in question. Except to wish XXXer good luck in finding a buyer.
