View Full Version : To my wife - Thank You!
My wife is responsible for everything mountain bike that I do "the nsmba, trail work, rippers, riding... everything." When we bought our place here in upper Lynn Valley I did commute to work every day to UBC but had no idea about was was in the woods just a few hundred feet above me.
The term North Shore meant nothing to me...
Shortly after we got the house my wife got our dog "Lu, I think you have meet at the cabin" Well she and the new dog decided to go up into princess park behind our house and wandered up the power lines on some trails and found the end of some of trails that I today ride all the time. Well when I got home that night she told me about this adventure walk so we both went together the very next weekend and took a nice walk around the area. The trail she had discovered "known to me now as Boundary" blew my mind. I had no idea what I was looking at with all the crazy stunts and high wood structures in the air. At that moment some person on a crazy bike with suspension I had never seen in my life except on a dirt bike blows down all the structures and just rips past us.I looked and my wife and she said "we have to get bikes and start riding this" I could not wait and we started our search for the bikes that would work for us.
Funny how life is, we had been trying to have kids for 5 plus years with no luck and it seems right after her discovery she became pregnant and the shopping for a bike for her ended as fast as it started.
Since then we now have 2 little girls age 2 and 1. Now that she has been delayed for the last 3 years I think its time she starts to learn this north shore thing since I have a 3 year head start on her.
It is funny how many people I have meet and new friends I have made in the last short 3 years I have been riidng the shore.
To my wife... Thank You!!
Its now time for you to do some girl clinics with endlessbiking while I watch the kids on the fine sunny weekends ahead.

cool!
Congrats, Padre!
My (new) girlfriend, L, and I (both 44 and very active) together explored XC skiing this last winter ..L is also buying a Surly LHT for bicycle touring, too....
so I love it when I hear of couples doing alot of things together...that helps
make the love glue all that much more stickworthy!
This summer I'm just getting into XC Mtn biking and am trying to lure her into it, too...so thanks for the inspiration, as I think it's a great couple thing to do ...and besides L loves to hike and be outdoors in the trees (she's a real trooper!), so I thought mtn biking is the next step for us to explore given the majestic wonders all around us, ie, nshore, whistler, golden, revelstoke, jasper, banff (etc etc).
Hey gals and other couples pls chip in your own 2 cents on how you're enjoying mtn biking together (and any great trails you've enjoyed).

Yeah, I think I owe most of my riding fun to you. Having someone to share the tales with, and to support the neverending stream of repair bills and new parts is great.
Even better is having someone who doesn't freak out when you break yourself, even when they get sent on a tour through the hospital and ICU in search of you :).
True story folks, whenever I need a new bike, she has to bully me into buying it to the point of being borderline covert and sneaky to trick me into buying something that I obviously want but can't justify to myself. Can you get much cooler than that?
Silk, I hear you. Supportive wives are awesome. Thanks for posting that story!

Biking is great, biking with your Hon is phenominal! Congrats on the great family and great story.
I took a course with EB and highly recommend them. Also there are alot of awsome women riders who are going up all the time so watch the boards. We have every skill level and just love to ride.

haha with 2 kids running around there is no other stuff...
Great story and it makes me realize my better half could do with some recognition, not only is she a biking widow she's also a building widow.
She often gazes wistfully at the unfinished patio at the front of the house but has never dropped the "why don't you work on the garden as much as you work in the woods" routine. Bless her.
I'm going to have to go buy her some flowers as a thank you. :couple:
Ken; thanks for the wake up call.

Hey Ken, hopefully your wife saw this great post and is now riding her bike that's been sitting in the basement the last few years.
Also, your story is one of the best I've heard about how someone got into riding!
I spent this last weekend getting her bike cleaned of dust and we went and got her a dual child trailer because she wants to start with that and get some miles in the lscr.
Kids love the trailer and so far so good.
Endless biking in the next month is what she is thinking.

What a great way to get the kids into it and show them that being physically active is so important.
I'm taking the EB progression course and its great...definitely have done some firsts.

How is your wife liking the lessons by EB? Is she getting much time on her bike?
With the family all in from Japan now for the last few months both her and I
are not getting out much at all.
such is life.
