Hi,
I'm new to Vancouver and I can't wait to ride the infamous shore trails. I've been to the last two trail days, so I know my way around the lower end of Seymour pretty well.
I'd really like to ride CBC, but I don't know if I can hike-a-bike to the top of it. I know I can get up Old buck to the power lines and road, but is there a hiking trail that keeps going up? I know most people shuttle but I don't mind pushing my bike up if that's what it takes.
Thanks for your help
riding up the road is best IMO. plus if you toss out your thumb you can usually get a lift.
you could keep pushing up old buck to perimeter but it would be a hellish hike. technicly there are no bikes allowed on those trails but I cant see push a bike up being a big deal

Yep - if you want to ride to CBC start, do old buck to where it kicks out on the road then road ride the rest of the way.

Ditto - Old Buck to the Deep Cove lookout parking lot and then pedal across the last 1km of flat road to the trailhead. It'll take a solid 1.5 hrs to get up there.
I assume its officially open? Is there any snow left on the trail?

The road is the best way... I have been grabbed every time I have decided to hike up.
Just throw the thumb out and someone will pick you up!

I don't get grabbed enough these days, maybe I should head up there ;)
Really, the ranger gave you a hard time for walking up Old Buck? Did you get ticketed or turned around? They probably assume you're gonna ride something over there and get pissy about that. I've walked up there a ton and never seen rangers. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen a ranger in the Seymour woods, just on the road
Old Buck may take longer but personally I prefer the shade and serenity of the forest

bryce, i believe Dan is talking about getting picked up by someone driving up the road and given a lift to the top. that is pretty common.
as for Old Buck ... i regularly ride Old Buck all the way to Mushroom lot without issues. it's a nice techy climb from the pavement to Mushroom lot. but if you take Old Buck all the way to the Deep Cove lookout, it's more of a hike with some pretty steep sections to be riding up. either way, so much nicer to take the extra time and stay off the road ...

No I was talking about getting "grabbed". Several times carloads of girls go by and.... well this is a public thread... so what happens on the mountains... stays on the mountains!
HA!
I am thinking that if I can get my bike back from Norco in time... I can go for a rip. Heck... I have a truck... we can shuttle.
But I have to find out if I can get my bike back.
PM me... and we'll set it up. I know the mountain pretty well.
Cheers!

I never thought it would happen to me and that all those letters in Repenthouse were fake but.......I was like whoa.. and they like HOLY DYNA.. and I was all ....sweeeeeet. hhhhhh

totally, I'm not a big fan of the road. Fast traffic, exhaust, brake stench, exposed to rain in the winter and sun in the summer, people throwing crap at you, people talking shit, the skid marks left on the pavement from the last cyclist that was hit by a rice-mobile... Plus, pedalling up the trail is a better warm up

well, I didn't hike - but it sure was fun. CBC is great though the last log-ride to steep rocks is a little beyond me at this point. Pangor really needs a lot of work...I won't ride that again for a while thats for sure. Thanks for all the tips and invites to ride.

The biggest thing was that there were a few bridge sections with rotted out rungs/no rungs anymore

I was able to get a ride up to CBC this weekend by meeting some generous people in the parking lot of Safeway. It was the first time riding CBC. It is indeed steep and technical but a whole lot of fun. I headed up alone and was able to hook up with two groups of riders that where nice enough to show me around and get me back to my car. Mountain Bikers are really a good lot.

Pangor is actually in pretty good shape right now, you should see it when it gets rough!

what the heck is wrong with pangor???
pangor is a muddy rutted cattle run. one of the crappiest trails on the shore by far. no offense to anyone who has worked on it ...

pangor's the greatest trail on seymour, with all sorts of up and downs and skinnies and a couple little drops. it just doesn't have enough people maintaining it outside of traildays.
feel free to step up! PM me. there's a couple projects I have in mind.

you got that right. pangor is so smooth right now im sure you could ride a rigid bike down it

I dunno why people have such a hate for Neds - you can go crazy fast if you're on your game

neds is the best fast trail on the shore. If you're using brakes, you're not floating over the chunder.
Bryce

exactly, the faster you go, the smoother it gets. And then the harder you crash. I've gotten pretty worked on Neds over the years but whatever
