I mean, I admit there are some useful opinions, but in general (especially for cheaper components that younger riders can afford) the comments are inane, useless, and stupid.

The link above heads to the Hayes Mech's thread. Here are a few cons people listed:
look gay
payed to much
rotor untrue
cable streches alot
squeel if u spill pop on them
Really REALLY shitty levers

Jesus . I just finished tweaking mine even more (brough my levers in closer to the bar). Now they're even stronger than they were before (which was pretty damned good). I wish there was some easy test to do so that I could toss out some measure of their strength (like 20N or something). These people are making comments that would get me laughing in their face if we talking.

My rant for the night.

Now if you REALLY want to get mad, go here

Read his little rants section. I'm usually a live and let live kind of guy, but sometimes I guess that small tires really do equal small.......minds.

The gear reviews are an ongoing struggle for us. Lots of volume to sort through, and lots of people trying to be funny.

We share your frustration! It is supposed to be an opportunity to put your tech skills to work, but some of the people are too immature for this and use it as an outlet for their need to act like a moron.

Who spills pop on rotors anyway??

I was just riding along and dropped my can of Bargs right on my disc. Wierd.

My intention to get a road bike is EXACTLY my point. Read that guy's articles. He's on a mission to eradicate fun from biking.

Among other things he wants to do:

abolish riser bars,

eradicate the term 'free riding' from our lexicon,

make it illegal to ride down anything that you can't ride up,

the list goes on.

I'm making Great Divide Cyclery reason #1 254 why Canada is the True North Strong and Free and the US is the opposite.

....ding ding!! it's on.

Ohhh, I had a look at the articles :D. Some typical fur rubbing going on there and those guy's are all twinks no doubt. I bet you he models for Colorado Cyclist in his spare time...

I tell you, spend some time down here riding and you'll see how different it is...

Most complaints result from improper set-up. Somehow, it's the component's fault.

Oh man, you're so right. Everyone always thinks it's the donwhillers and freeride people who hate all the other forms of riding, but if you think about it, even based on our bb, a lot of us are more open minded and respectful than guys like that.

I would like for that guy to come out here and try Whistler, or any of the Shore trails, or even out here in the interior. And meet any of us. He'd be speechless, I can guarantee.

That dude needs to get a life. He tries to some across as such a "purist" in regards to his holier than thou stance towards riding.

If he'd just take that intensity that he uses to fabricate the flaws and what he feels are "issues" (like the god forsaken riser bar, or , oooh, "suspension") and redirect it towards the soul of riding he just might become what I like to call..."happy".

Poor guy. He sounds miserable.

Part one of this thread: the HMX's were pretty good for me, although they took a bit to set up properly (need more tension and need the pads close to the rotor than you would think), and I hope I didn't waste my money on the new HFX 9's, but my hands insisted anyways...

Part two: it must be nice to piss off half a big percentage of the market and still stay in business. Isn't the US a great place!!??? He sounds like an old fart, as opposed to just old like me. :D

This is what I contend with daily at the shop and the vibe I get from most cyclist in this area.

They don't get it. They are lost in a one way, narrow tire'd, weight weenie world left in the 90's. Not to diss XC because it's cool too.

Some of his views on things remind me exactly of views I encounter every day. Here in the U.S. for the most part people don't seem to get it, that this riding is fun and that's just it. Especially it seems in my area of the U.S.

So many stories you wouldn't believe.

So many peoples feet right in there own mouth.

The main problem I have with it is not necessarily what there views are on it. It's the fact that they will not open their eyes or mind to it and let progression come into their riding.

just close minded to it

you hit it on the head well almost. If you take them to a place that is not climbable (in other words fairly fun terrain) they freak.

I have never heard so much whining in my life, this trail needs work here this trail needs work there. If they had there way they'd be riding 3 foot paved roads through the woods on there road bikes.

wow. I think that the author of that page. *
Is the most hypocritical person I have read. where all bikers. but you can't use disk brakes, or suspension forks. If biking is biking who cares as long as your having fun. I enjoy climbing up a mountain, just as much as flying down it. I guess I'm not a biker.

or my favorite, why you need a trainer... because its cold outside. suck it up, and get some winter clothes. I rode for 20 min outside in -40 weather last week. I would kept going but my drive train was freezing up. This guy need to accept technological advances and relize the sport is growing into new realms.
