View Full Version : Bike for Jeremy Power

NorthShoreBikeShop
04-05-2007, 12:33 PM
Based on this thread in the Shore Forum (http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=94724), North Shore Bike Shop is going to be the official builder of the bike we get together for Jeremy.

Please post here what you can donate (money or parts - any money will be used to purchase parts that people don't have available to give). Money donated will go towards the purchase of bike parts for Jeremy's bike at wholesale - no markup will be charged. If there is a profit left over once the bike is complete, it will be forwarded to NSMBA. North Shore Bike Shop is doing this to express gratitude to a great trail steward, not to reap a profit.

For those who have already volunteered some stuff in the other thread, please repost here what you have available. Thanks!

Last thing, are we building up a DH bike or an all-mountain bike?

Matt

Thanks Matt for making this thread!

Here is what you can claim from us:

full build (yeah, it's been used a few times but with a little shop love, it can be rolling like-new):
regular le toy4
canecreek headset
manitou breakout fork
wheelset (double wides, hubs i dont remember off the top of my head, minion rubber)
avid mech brakeset
x7 drivetrain
srs guide
...yada yada

If that isn't what he is looking for, or wants, we can part it out!

Random parts:
lots of sizes of seat posts
various bars
03 and an 04 jrT
an 04 and 05 breakout

Also, from Carbuncle, a large 05 Yakuza Kumicho; It comes with the rear wheel (a 36h WTB Speeddisc rim laced to a generic 150x12mm hub), headset with 1 1/8 reducer installed, freshly installed pivots and a complete new set of uninstalled pivots, a standard IRD seatpost and post QR.

Of course, perhaps raising enough money for him to pick what he wants may be a better option? And do we know if he even wants a bike?

I just spoke with him (no, you can't keep this a surprise when it's on the web).

yes, he would like to ride again, and has been given the OK by the doc.

no, he wouldn't ever be able to ride a hardtail.

A light, all mountain/downhill bike would be best. Something that he can pedal up and down with.

he's 5'11", 185 lbs

and he sounds quite happy about the thanks you guys are giving him! Let's make this happen!

185 lbs or kilos?

I have parts. Once we know what's needed I can dig through the boxes.

So is there going to be a jar or something a your shop I can throw a donation into? By the time my parts become spare, they aren't much good for anything

We've got a brand new .243 racing seat that was donated by .243 for trail days.

Jeremy's the king of trail days, so he's got a new seat.

No jar or anything like that. I'll throw a post up here with you guys when you make the donation and this thread will serve as the record for donations. I'm thinking Bottlerocket frame with Fox Vanilla 36 fork if we can get the donations up there...

I think the best way to do this would be to set a date and do what we can by the date set. What does everyone think of the May 6 Seymour trailday?

Who is this Jeremy Power?

Oh he is a legend here...

He can move fallen trees 150 years old with the slightest touch!

He splits rocks with his bare hands!

Edit... he has 2 dogs... big as horses they are... and they carry his tools up the mountain!

so basically Matt started a cool thing I just think he chose the wrong trailbuilder.

I am glad to see a trailbuilder get some love for sure there are already too many wannabees out there suckin up free bikes that contribute nothing but hot air( hhmmmm thats a bit close to home..lol).

maybe you should read the original thread which is linked in the first post - or is that too difficult for you? matt didn't start the idea (and who gives a rat's ass where his store is located relative to the cbc trail).

it's pretty simple - if you don't want to help out - don't. but a lot of people do, and will.

Digger didn't make a cent and built a helluva lot of trails on his own dime. Sorry I think Todd deserves a free bike more than me, you, Jeremy put together.....

i think todd has made a few dollars off of some of his videos...

Well now that I have gone thru and re-read and deleted my posts, I realize one thing is for certain. My posts were very mild and suggestive, and merely poked at the fact that maybe it should have been my friend Todd that was chosen for a free bike rather than JP.

I do not believe in deleting posts, that would defeat the point of posting. On the bb, as in life I am a wee bit too honest with folks sometimes, and that was the case here.

I deleted my posts only because this is the Inside Line, and I believe that Matt has paid to be here.

I will buy Jer breakfast at Tommy's next time I see him, and we will laugh about this. I know he will take much less offense to my opinion than some of you on here did.

Sorry Matt just stirring the pot a bit. Brought a whole lot more views to your thread, so its true what they say about press then isnt it....??

Lol. cl

Wow let's get back on track now ok?

This is a thread dedicated to Jeremy Power and his contributions to the shore. We're running this drive to reward Jeremy and to welcome him back to cycling as a community.

When Digger gets his knees fixed and shows a desire to get back on a bike you can count on North Shore Bike Shop to be organizing the drive for a bike for him.

But this time, we're doing the drive for Jeremy.

We have received a seat and grips from .243 and NSMBA.

Please stop by the store and make your donations to get Jeremy back out on the trails that he has contributed to so much. New parts or money are being accepted. Thanks.

Update on received parts and needed parts:

So far we have (or are very close to having)

Frame, fork, wheels, stem, bar, headset, cranks, seat, grips, tires

We still NEED the following items:

BRAKES, SHIFTERS, DERAILLEURS, PEDALS

North Shore Bike Shop will provide the seatpost, cables and housing, chain, cassette, and the build.

As Heckler pointed out, it would be better to have the presentation at the May NSMBA members meeting.

Please phone or email me at the shop if you have items or money you would like to donate. Please keep in mind we're looking for new parts only and parts that are consistent with the type of bike we're building - a 6x6 single-crown all-mountain ride.

You can make your donation by cash, debit, or credit at the store. Phone in for credit card donations.

Thanks to all the people who have already donated parts and money so far. We're looking at $370 so far and need to raise quite a bit more to get a nice shore ride together for Jeremy!

EDIT: $100 received from Paul Kim (Pablo)! Thank you my friend!

Total so far $470

Hello everyone,

We have raised $830 so far towards getting Jeremy back out and riding. We have received several great gifts from local companies towards this project.

More is needed. We still need to raise a couple hundred dollars to build a sweet bike and show our gratitude as a community to Jeremy. Please call or visit and donate whatever you can. The weather is finally starting to resemble srping and I'm sure Jeremy feels the itch to ride more than most of us. Thanks!

Also an update - I would like to see Jeremy riding before June and the bike will be ready soon - so I'm thinking a giveaway here at the store will be the best route. Perhaps on a Saturday evening at 8 pm so most people have time to finish up their rides and then attend? Any thoughts or input on this?

Huge thanks to Shannon M. at Race Face for the Atlas cranks/bb and the headset for Jeremy's bike.

Also thanks to Andrew Spence for his $20 donation.

EDIT: Flip flop flip flop - looks like NSMBA feels the giveaway would be better at the shop. I'll post the date soon. Hopefully we can do this at some point next week. I'm thinking Saturday evening at closing time, next week (19th)

If there are any more people that would like to donate towards this project please come by the store or call in with credit card this week. If there is any surplus in donations, they will be forwarded to the NSMBA, so you can't lose. It's going to a great cause no matter what!
