hey guys, do any of you guys who run singlespeed ever ride those bikes on the shore? more specifically Fromme? I'm coming out and I can run one of two gear ratios, 36/16 or 34/16. i'm running 24/26 wheels with .243 racing tires. I want to be able to ride up at least some of the fire road cause i know i sure as hell don't wanna end up walking to the whole way up to the trails. Also what gear ratio seems to work best while trying to ride the skinnies? should i go for the easier of the two ratio's for that?
Sorry for all the questions, but i've yet to ride my SS'ed bike on a trail
its not fun for riding up
but it rips coming down
i take my ss minuteman up fromme sometimes(i like to throw the gears back on sometimes)

up fromme= bad
down fromme= good if you pick the right trails
if there is a trail with lots of uphill and wheelie drops =bad

alright well i'm not really sure on what trails i'm gonna be doing as i don't really know all that much about the trails, but from what i hear i've been told to ride Upper Pipeline, Air Supply and that's about all i know. last year i rode Upper and lower Ladies only and that was fun, but i want somethin a bit trickier this year....

You should be good as gold on air supply, there is no uphill stuff that requires you to pedal and have troubbles except the skinnies at the end.

Upperoilcan, to Air Supply on the way down, and maybe Espresso or Lower Ladies.
I've never done it, but I imagine it'd be hard... I always end up in a low gear.
i ride 32/18 on the shore. its perfect

i have single speed and stay far far away from woodlot, but seymour and fromme are fine. It just depends what trails you do and if they have lots of uphill pedaling ladderbridges then you will be walking a lot. You can easily do all of ladies and lower ladies with it and groovula and upperoilcan.

Yeah, lst time I used the SS on the Shore I was happiest with 34/18. Just a little bit easier than 2:1. Easier to spin it out, but how many places can you spin out a gear on the Shore anyway?

Thanks alot everyone! i was all worried i'd die on the shore with my SS...now i can't wait to come out...only 2 1/2 more months.
