Ya thats what I meant. Years of living there causes one to just call it "The Coast" as if there is no other coast in this world.

Haven't been there for nearly a year now, but damn it looks like there has been the continued and extensive logging going on in the area.

Talked to an old friend from there and he said no trees are left in West Sechelt area, sad.

Awesome shots this week. Congrats to the winner Stubs/Robinson. This week's winning shot reminds of a BIKE magazine esque cover shot.

awesome winning shot....

Smoke, I like the first a lot, second meh for me.

Which brings me to something that I was pondering last week. Someone commented on how they thought that a photo contest was mostly about technical things like focus, composition, etc. While they are pretty essential, its that "extra" quality that makes a great shot, and often at the expense of those technical details.

I'm a big fan of shots that capture a moment rather than the staged shots. That's what I liked about that 2nd shot, the way that buddys shoulders are sort of tensed, you get the feeling of "rad" that goes into pinning that line. You can tell that homes isn't a pro, but he's super gripped there. It's more of a moment in time than a technically perfect shot, but in its own way that's pretty cool. There's plenty more like that, but that particular one just caught my eye.

In the end, it's as much about the mood of the judge as anything. Still, this is such a freekin awesome contest and it gives us all a lot to chit chat about.

Time to look at the latest offerings.....

^^Good comments. However.....the second picture gives me the impression that the bike is too big for the rider, and he's really just hanging on for dear life.

Yeah! Thats it.....

With all the staged shots of pros that's exactly what caught my eye. He's freaking out. Cool.

While I agree that it's definately a "feel" kinda thing, composition does play a
role. To me the shot looks staged, with the rider in the dead center of the shot.
The rider is washed out and the contrast between the rider and the dark background
takes away from the feel for me. While I can appreciate "being there", the
other factors are too distractinf for me.

Why I liked the first one better is there is intrest like the 2nd, but he's
"looking" at something, is it the blurry tree, the jump I don't know, but it makes
me look around too. I get more perspective from the first than the second.

What's so cool about this process, is to hear the different views. The cool
thing about art is it IS so subjective, and each picture means something different
to each of us.
